- Tigor has been on sale since March 2017
- Currently offered with Petrol, CNG and EV fuel options
- Offers class leading safety & unbeatable value
The Tigor is Tata Motors' offering in the sub 4 meter compact sedan space. It currently rivals models like the Hyundai Aura, Maruti Dzire and the Honda Amaze. Although the demand for 3 box cars isn't as high as SUVs, the Tigor remains one of the highest selling sedans in India. The popularity and demand refuses to come down and each month, thousands of owners bring this car home as a reliable, safe and a comfortable companion.
What Makes It Popular
- High Levels of Safety
With a 4-star NCAP crash test rating, the Tigor is the safest sedan you can buy in the segment. Infact, it is one of the safest cars across segments under Rs 9 lakh in India (ex-showroom price). If safety for you and your family is priority, this model should definitely be high on your list. - Excellent Value
As of end March 2023, the Tata Tigor comes with a starting price of just Rs 6.19 lakh, ex-showroom. This is about Rs 70,000 less than the starting price of the Honda Amaze, Rs 10,600 cheaper than the Hyundai Aura and Rs 26,000 less than the Maruti Dzire. And yet, the Tigor does not compromise on design, space or safety levels.
The top version retails for as low as Rs 7.99 lakh (petrol MT) and yet offers a plethora of features including leatherette seats, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, projector headlamps, fully automatic temperature control and even a high-end 7 touchscreen infotainment system by Harman with 8 speakers! All this while under-cutting rivals by a significant price margin. - Comfort levels
The Tata Tigor not only feels solid to drive, the suspension is tuned to offer high levels of comfort across various terrains. We had the car for a week and drove it for over 500km - the overall experience was positive in terms of comfort levels. The spacious cabin also helps in aiding this factor. This means that for both urban and highway runs, this sedan will not tire you or the occupants. - CNG kit with high levels of safety
CNG is fast gaining popularity and acceptance among Indian buyers. The Tigor comes with an optional factor fitted CNG kit. Not only does it offer high efficiency levels, the Tigor also offers direct start in CNG mode. This is the only car in the segment to do so.
Likewise, it supports faster CNG fuel up at stations, thereby reducing your waiting time. The single advance ECU also ensures less drop in performance as compared to the petrol mode. In comparison, other CNG sedans come with a dual ECU set-up with a significant difference in performance between CNG and petrol modes.
The CNG kit on the Tigor also offers leak detection feature, thermal incident feature, a retuned suspension (with highest ground clearance in the segment) and one of the largest boot space with a CNG tank.
Last but not the least, the Micro Switch feature provides additional safety as it stops the car from starting until the 'Fuel Lid' is securely closed, making sure the driver and passengers aboard are safe.

What Do Other Owners Say?
We also decided to meet owners of other cars to understand if they also found the Tata Tigor good enough. For this, we targeted owners of compact sedans and premium hatchbacks. The same can also be seen in the video posted above. Here is a quick summary of what these users had to say after spending sometime with the 2023 Tata Tigor

"As a diesel car owner, the Tigor CNG surprised me a lot - soft clutch and peppy motor. Both ingress and egress are also excellent. Plus, under Rs 9 lakh for top end CNG means excellent value for money"
2023 Tata Tigor
For 2023, Tata has further updated the Tigor to meet the latest E20 as well as RDE norms. E20 means the Tigor can run on 20% Ethanol blended petrol as and when the same is launched across fuel pumps. This fuel is cheaper and environment friendly as well.
RDE refers to real driving emission norms. The engine is further refined and more eco-friendly than ever before. Apart from this, the 2023 Tigor also introduces TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) and the display for the same is in the digital speedometer console.
The 2023 Tigor sees an improvement in fuel economy as well. As per ARAI certification, the petrol automatic models now offer as much as 19.6 kmpl under standard test conditions. Last but not the least, the 2023 Tigor now comes with a 3 year / 1,00,000km warranty as standard.
Summing it up
In the automotive space for over 6 years, the Tigor continues to enjoy a good market share in the segment. For those looking at a sedan for family usage, the Tigor scores high marks for comfort and safety. The value for money quotient is unbeatable and the 3-box design of a sedan at such an attractive price point is a big social step-up in life for a lot of buyers.
For CNG users, the Tigor does well with ample safety features, high efficiency and no compromise performance.
For the new age buyers, the list of features including climate control, push button start, digital console, Harman audio set-up and leatherette seats will keep them satisfied. No wonder then, this is the "No Compromise" car under Rs 9 lakh!
