Tesla Model Y (Juniper) Spied For The First Time In India - Camouflaged

Amid the ongoing news of Tesla planning to open showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai, something significant has just come up to our desk. The Tesla Model Y, codenamed "Juniper," was seen testing on the highways of India, and was wearing totally protective covers (camouflaged). This latest news doesn't indicate anything about Elon Musk's plans to conquer the Indian premium EV market, as the ongoing Trump tariff war has shaken the world, but this works as a breath of fresh air, as it might be launched here. Tesla Model Y

Tesla Model Y is a fastback SUV, which in its home country starts at Rs 41,490, which translates to Rs 35 lakh, and this particular model is all-new, launched in early 2025, and its codename is Juniper. Now, the fastback SUV shape is quite new for Indians, as nobody has heard of it, but in reality, it's just an extended version of a coupe SUV, where the roof slopes gradually without breaking, implying that the rear headroom isn't disturbed. Its bigger sibling, the Tesla Model X, is quite a popular car worldwide, and that too falls in the same body type category. Also, the Model X has been spotted in India quite a few times, as people have imported it.

Now, back on to the Model Y, and this particular facelift draws a lot of inspiration from the Tesla Cybertruck, as the front features a long LED connecting light, and lights for high beam and low beam are placed at the bumper. At the back, the same treatment is done, where a long slate of LED is there, which does give it an impactful and uber cool look.

Now, even in the spy shots, the car looks massive, and the fastback shape sets it completely apart from all the SUVs out there. However, one thing that feels questionable is that there isn't much of a ground clearance. In photos, it's looking like the ground clearance will be lower than 175 mm, as there is no space between the wheel and body. So, this feels questionable.

Some Details

Lastly, the battery pack size isn't mentioned anywhere, but other details about the Juniper are - range of 327 miles (526 km), top speed of 125 miles (201 km), and 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Now, if launched in India anytime soon, the prices will not start below Rs 55 lakh for this car, as it will not be produced here, so that leaves us with two options - either CKD or CBU, and both also bring more tax, so easily this car will cost over Rs 15 to 20 lakh over its original price. That said, this is our assumption only, and anything overtly different (positive) can also happen.
