The most recent players, Harley X440 and the Triumph Speed 400 are the biggest challengers at Enfield's home turf. Along with the brand name, the starting price of around Rs. 2.3 lakhs ex-showroom is what makes them a very lucrative option. This is attributed to the RE opening up the price-sensitive Indian market to stretch its budget to these marks.
Norton, a British motorcycle brand, boasts a remarkable 125-year motorcycling legacy. Currently, the parent company of Norton is TVS Motor Company, a well-known Indian two-wheeler manufacturer. At present, Norton offers two powertrains and has a lineup of three motorcycles.
The Norton Commando 961 is a cafe-racer-style motorcycle, powered by a 961cc parallel-twin engine with an old-school push rod configuration and oil cooling. On the other hand, the V4CR and V4SV models showcase a more modern construction, featuring a 74-degree 1200cc V4 engine with a DOHC configuration and liquid cooling. The V4CR is a street fighter version, while the V4SV comes with a full fairing, offering distinct options to riders.
However, leaving a mark in this segment has been a long-time dream of almost all bike manufacturers. Currently, Honda, Jawa, and Yezdi have their presence, but not that they are any potential threats, keeping the reputation of the RE 350s in mind.
What To Expect From TVS Norton Combat
As the design patent for a cruiser motorcycle from TVS leaked before, you can expect this name tag to be stuck on that. Plus, it will most likely draw inspiration from the Commando 961, with a smaller engine unit. However, we need to wait to find out more concrete details as the development progresses.
Verdict
In a bid to dim the shine of Royal Enfield, TVS is placing its bet on the Norton Combat. In the past, the cruiser bike patent leaks suggested a poential rival product as well. Meanwhile, TVS Ronin is doing good for the company at present and the Norton Combat will help to strengthen its position further in the market.
