KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The Tuono 457 is based on the RS 457 and shares many components with it.
- It gets rider aids and traction control modes over the Yamaha MT-03.
- The KTM 390 Duke can also be considered as a close rival in terms of performance.
The Aprilia Tuono 457 has made things quite interesting in its segment. An affordable, naked Italian performance was missing, but that has now changed with the Tuono's arrival. This is the second bike to be built on the 457 platform, and it will be built at Piaggio's plant in Baramati.

Aprilia Tuono 457 First Look Review
Design

As mentioned plenty of times before, the Tuono 457 is unlike any other Tuono seen in Aprilia's lineup, both globally and in India. It comes with a projector headlamp setup flanked by angular DRLs on either sides. This is a new design approach Aprilia seems to be taking, and we won't be surprised if the bigger Tuonos come with a similar setup in the future. Rounding things off at the head unit is the winglet-like treatment underneath the headlamp.

The rest of the motorcycle continues with the typical naked design language, and there is a healthy balance of black, chrome, and copper on the mechanical bits. The rear section bears resemblance to the RS 457. Our pick would be the Piranha Red paint scheme, as it looks quite well suited to the Tuono 457's design, and seems to fit in with the naked streetfighter theme. The presence of 17-inch wheels with thick rubber also adds to this look.

Powertrain and Hardware

The powertrain and most of the mechanicals here are shared with the RS 457. It comes with the same 457cc, liquid-cooled twin-cylinder mill, producing 46.9bhp at 9400rpm and 43.5Nm of torque at 6700rpm. The Italian bikemaker says that the final drive ratio has been altered, which should make a difference in terms of the power delivery and acceleration, making it more suited to the streetfighter nature of the bike.

Both motorcycles are also underpinned by the same dual-beam frame, suspended on the same 41mm USD fork setup and a monoshock. If the RS' performance and handling are anything to go by, the Tuono 457 shouldn't be very far-off in terms of performance and handling. We can expect the Tuono to tip into the corners nicely, carry a nice speed and allow you to stick to a line without too much fuss.

Like the RS 457, the Tuono 457's seat height of 800mm should be accessible for most riders. The kerb weight of 175kg, along with the slightly higher handlebars, and the not-so-rearset footpegs should also make result in a more relaxed riding stance, hence making it far more easier to ride in daily conditions when compared to its fully-faired sportsbike sibling. However, some amount of stiffness and top-heaviness can be expected.

Features

For its price and the rivals that it goes up against, the Tuono 457 is quite well equipped. It gets 5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity, navigation, three riding modes, ride-by-wire, three traction control modes, and dual-channel ABS.
Furthermore, Aprilia also offers accessories such as a bi-directional quickshifter, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, a USB port, a single-seat cowl, adjustable levers, red-painted pedals, a red-painted chain, and racing brake pads among many other things.
Verdict
The second bike on the 457 platform, the Tuono 457's price tag should make it more accessible to customers, satisfying die-hard fans who have been clamoring for a performance Italian naked bike for quite some time now. Whether or not it succeeds against the competition, only time will answer.
