TVS Apache RTR 310 3 Pros And 3 Cons: Big Stepper?

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Engine is the same as that in the RR 310 but is tuned to produce more power and torque.

The TVS Apache RTR 310 was launched in 2023, as a naked version of the RR 310, which has been around for some time. However, there are quite a few differences between the two bikes, even though they share the same DNA. The RTR 310 is more powerful, offers a whole host of new features, and stands as the flagship motorcycle of TVS. If you're planning to buy it, you're in the right place, as I'm going to share its pros and cons to help you make an informed decision about your next purchase. TVS Apache RTR 310 Pros

Fast Acceleration

The heart of this motorcycle is a 312.12 cc 4-stroke liquid-cooled engine that produces 35.6 PS and 27.3 Nm of torque, delivering lightning-quick performance. It completes 0 to 100 km/h in 7.19 seconds and can easily exceed 150 km/h. There are 5 driving modes available, which limit throttle response and control traction. However, in every mode, it reaches high speeds in the blink of an eye. So, if you want every ride to be thrilling, go with the RTR 310.

Competitor Check: There is no direct rival to the RTR 310, but considering the price and power figures, the KTM 250 Duke is a worthy competitor. That said, the Duke is just 0.30 seconds slower than the RTR 310 in 0 to 100 km/h sprint and is Rs 10,000 cheaper with a smaller engine.

Feature Loaded

One area where TVS has made significant improvements is in the features. This bike is loaded with high-tech elements that many readers may not have heard of, such as temperature-controlled seats with both cooling and heating functions and dynamic LED headlamps. Additionally, the 5-inch TFT display comes with SmartXonnect software, which pairs your device with the screen and notifies you about calls and messages.

Additionally, the bike features dual-channel ABS that can be disengaged, cruise control with a cornering option, adjustable levers, and 6-step adjustable monoshock suspension. However, these features are available only in the Dynamic Pro kit.

Competitor Check: The TVS Apache RTR 310 is in the number one spot when it comes to features, as no other bike in the 300 to 400 cc segment offers such features. Not even the KTM 250 Duke.

Dominating Looks

This 312.12 cc motorcycle is a head-turner, and its aggressive design will captivate your attention at first glance. The front end, with its large LED headlamps, is striking, and as you observe it from the side, the dominating looks continue to steal attention. Except for the KTM 390 Duke, no other bike in this price segment has such sporty looks, which are pleasing to the eyes. So, if you want to make a statement, head straight to the TVS showroom and book one for yourself.

Competitor Check: The KTM 250 Duke is heavily inspired by its elder brother, the 390, but when compared to the RTR 310, it feels quite slim. So, if looks are your main priority, then TVS would be a better option.

TVS Apache RTR 310 Cons

Vibrations

The biggest flaw of the TVS Apache RTR 310 is the vibrations coming from the engine, handlebars, and footrests. This is the major disadvantage of owning this bike because vibrations diminish comfort and make riders feel tired even after short trips. This year, TVS tried to address this issue with a software update; read our report here. While their update reduced the vibrations, it did not completely eliminate the problem. Additionally, this is why many owners don't use it daily and also have another commuter bike.

Competitor Check: This is a production issue, and customers wont find this problem in rivals like the KTM 250 or 390 Duke. While vibrations can add to the thrilling experience, they do not appear at every RPM. KTM engines are better and do not create such issues during daily driving, which is why many of its owners use them daily.

Unsatisfying Mid Level Performance

The mid-range of this bike is poor, as the engine doesnt provide the power needed for city driving, where frequent overtaking is required. Almost all the power it produces is available in the early stages. Additionally, this leads to another problem reported by several owners: the bike loses most of its power after 90 km/h. Owners report that, after reaching 90 km/h, the bike struggles to reach triple-digit speeds. While it eventually does, the ease of acceleration is lost.

Competitor Check: Again, the KTM 250 Duke faces no such complaints, but its low-end torque is very bad, as reported by owners. But engine is fantastic with high reving abilites.

Pricey

All the features I mentioned above do not come in the standard variant but are included in the Dynamic Kit and Dynamic Pro Kit, which cost Rs 18,000 and Rs 22,000, respectively. So, the total price before taxes comes up to Rs 3.12 lakh, which is expensive for a 310 cc bike. From Rs 3 lakh onwards, 400 cc bikes and high-end brands start, so this is another barrier that stops people from buying the TVS Apache RTR 310. For instance, the on-road price of the top trim will cost somewhere around Rs 3.60 to 3.70 lakh.

Competitor Check: The KTM 250 Duke costs Rs 2.40 lakh ex-showroom and does not offer any special kits. For over Rs 3 lakh, you can purchase the 390 Duke, which is an all together a better bike than Apache RTR.

Verdict

So, here are the pros and cons of the TVS Apache RTR 310. In my opinion, people who are extremely fond of racing or love to take their bikes on long trips with friends should consider purchasing this bike. However, due to vibrations and other minor issues, using it as a daily commuter might become an extremely tiring experience. Additionally, the bike's looks, performance, and features are exceptional. If the price is within your budget, it is definitely a fantastic motorcycle.
