Honda has finally launched the new-generation Honda City in India. The new City made it's World Premiere in Thailand last year. This new fifth-generation model was expected to be launched in India in April this year. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the launch was delayed. The City has always been a special car for the Indians. In fact, Honda entered the Indian market in the year 1998 with the City and it was an instant hit. The Honda City has always been a benchmark in its category. Hitherto, India has witnessed four generations and multiple facelifts of the City. Now, the new fifth-generation 2020 Honda City BS6 has been launched in India with prices starting at Rs. 10.89 lakhs, Ex-showroom.
Starting with the powertrain options, so the new Honda City gets Honda's superior Earth Dreams Technology range of BS6-compliant powertrains. There are two different engine options on offer, one is a petrol while the other is an oil-burner. It gets a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that churns out 121 PS of power at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm of torque at 4300 RPM. This engine comes coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-step CVT. The petrol version of the new City gets VTC (Variable Valve Timing Control). This VTC system helps to deliver high fuel efficiency, low emission and spirited driving performance.
It is also worth mentioning that the petrol CVT variants of the new City also get steering-mounted paddle shifters for a delightful driving experience. The ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency for the BS6 petrol with manual transmission (MT) is rated at 17.8 kmpl while the BS6 petrol with CVT is rated at 18.4 kmpl. The new City also gets a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 100 PS of power at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. This engine comes mated only to a 6-speed manual gearbox and its ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency is rated at 24.1 kmpl. The new 2020 Honda City BS6 is loaded with features up to the brim. It gets first-in-segment all-LED headlamps, LED DRLs, L-shaped floating-type LED turn indicators and also Z-shaped 3D LED wraparound taillamps. The new City gets a premium cabin with top-notch fit & finish and quality materials. It gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It also gets the next-generation Honda Connect system with a Telematics Control Unit (TCU). This TCU can remotely share the car's status and other details. It is India's first car with Alexa remote capability and the Honda Connect System offers as many as 32 connected car features.
The new City gets analogue dials for the instrument cluster along with a 17.7 cms HD fully-coloured TFT multi-information display (MID). It displays a ton of information like real-time fuel efficiency, digital speed and G-force meter. Some other features include a one-touch electric sunroof, automatic climate control, sunshades for the rear-seats, ambient lighting, cruise control and many more. Talking about the safety features, it gets up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD & Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with first in segment Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), etc. It also gets a very useful feature called Lane-watch Camera Assist which we have also seen in the Honda Civic.
Lastly, talking about the price, so the new 2020 Honda City BS6 is priced between Rs. 10.89 lakhs - Rs. 14.65 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. The bookings for the new fifth-generation City is already open. You can book this sedan by visiting your nearest Honda dealership or via Honda's digital sales platform called 'Honda From Home'. It can be booked online by just paying a token amount of Rs. 5,000 while you have to pay Rs. 21,000 if you wish to book through a Honda dealership. The new 2020 Honda City rivals against other mid-size sedans in India which include the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.
