Leapmotor EV Lineup Coming To India: Details

The Leapmotor brand is essentially in a joint venture with parent company Stellantis, with a 51:49 ratio. The Chinese car maker currently sells a wide range of pure EVs and range-extender hybrid cars, but its EV lineup is confirmed to be launched in India. Leapmotor's global EV lineup include the entry-level T03, the B10, the C01 sedan, the C10, C11 and C16 SUVs. There is no exact timeline mentioned, but we can expect some teasers or a launch to take place within the next few months or by early 2026.

As for what could be the first cars from Leapmotor, there are two possibilities. Based on a teaser image, the C11 mid-size electric SUV could likely be among the first to arrive in India. The C11 comes with a 90kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of 650km on a single charge. It makes use of modern design bits such as a full length light bar on both ends, along with flush-fitting retractable door handles. It also comes with an ADAS suite and a tri-screen setup on its dashboard similar to what we have seen on the Mahindra XEV 9E and some high-end Porsches.

The other possibility is the C10 SUV, which had been patented by the car maker back in 2023, but no other developments took place afterwards. The C10 comes with a 69.9kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of 420km on a single charge. The C10 also comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS, along with a 12-speaker sound system, 7 airbags, dual-zone voice command, a 14.6-inch infotainment touch screen, a 360-degree camera, and an NFC key among other things.

Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director, Stellantis India, said "Were excited to announce the entry of Leapmotor brand in India, thereby strengthening our commitment to the market. We already have a strong presence in India with our Jeep and Citro뮠brands, and we deeply understand the strategic importance and immense potential that the Indian market holds. Globally, Leapmotor is redefining electric mobility with a strong focus on innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. We look forward to bringing premium EVs to India's upwardly mobile consumersvehicles that redefine modern driving with cutting-edge technology, comfort, and sustainability."
Verdict
The entry of Leapmotor EV in India aligns with Stellantis' plans to produce more EVs. However, bringing in a new premium EV brand to India will be challenging; something Stellantis would be well aware of.
