Launched back in 2015, Hyundai Creta stormed the Indian car market with its uber-cool design and convenience features on-board. It ended up created a brand in itself. Fast forward to five years later, the second-gen of Hyundai Creta will be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in India and its launch will take in this financial year.
The 2020 Hyundai Creta was first shown in China and will be going on sale in India this financial year. In terms of design, the next-gen Creta gets inspired by the flagship SUV, Hyundai Palisade. The split headlight design works out pretty well and gives Creta a neat look. The next-gen Creta has grown in dimensions and will be longer, wider and has got an increased wheelbase too. The height, however, is 8mm shorter but hey, this is the Chinese-spec we're talking about. The Indian version is likely to be taller.
As subtle the rear is of the ongoing Hyundai Creta, the next-gen comes with a chunkier design. The flamboyant split LED taillight pattern highlights the width of the SUV and might please some of the buyers, but I definitely love the rear of the current Creta.

Inside, the cabin of the 2020 Hyundai Creta will see a redesigned dashboard and will be given a black and grey finish. Larger panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, double-step reclining rear seats and more can be expected from the upcoming mid-size SUV. Also, not forgetting the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and the availability of BlueLink Connectivity. Like the Venue, the Creta will also see the addition of an air purifier.
Apart from the overall design and addition of convenience features, the launch of India specific 2020 Hyundai Creta also sees a major upgrade under the hood. Both the 1.4 and 1.6L oil burner will be replaced by a 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine present in the Kia Seltos. This single unit diesel produces 115 bhp on tap along with 250 Nm of peak torque.

Also, Hyundai Creta will ditch the 1.6L petrol for a smaller 1.5L found in Seltos. The latter churns 115 bhp and 144 Nm of torque. Also, what's new is the addition of a turbo petrol motor found in the Seltos. The 1.4L motor punches out 140 bhp and a maximum torque of 242 Nm. Transmission sticks to a 6-speed manual for all engines and in terms of automatic, the 1.5L petrol gets a CVT gearbox, 1.4L turbo petrol receives 7-speed DCT and the diesel is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The 2020 Hyundai Creta rivals with the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and Mahindra XUV500. The competition is strong this time for the Creta as the newly launched Hector and Seltos have created quite a space in the market. Let's see how the upcoming SUV stands once it's launched.
