India's second-largest automaker recently launched two new variants of the micro SUV Exter, called S+ (Rs 8.43 lakh) and S(O)+ (Rs 7.86 lakh). Additionally, the S+ is only available with an AMT, while the S(O)+ comes exclusively with a 5-speed manual. Previously, the electric sunroof was only available starting from the SX trim, which is approximately Rs 30,000 more expensive. Now, the Exter is the cheapest SUV in the country with a sunroof option.

As for the engine, it features a 1.2L 4-cylinder Kappa engine that produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of torque. It delivers a fuel efficiency of 19.4 km/l with the manual gearbox and 19.2 km/l with the AMT.

Additionally, customers can get the single-pane sunroof starting from the second trim, the MX2 Pro, which costs Rs 8.99 lakh. In the higher trims, a larger panoramic sunroof is available. Regarding engine choices, customers can select between a 1.5 L diesel engine and a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine.

However, the diesel engine does not come with an automatic transmission, as it is available only in the starting trim. In contrast, the petrol engine offers both manual and automatic transmission options.

Additionally, there is only one engine option: a 1.2 L 4-cylinder that produces 83 PS and 114.7 Nm of torque. However, with the iVT, the power increases to 88 PS.

The variant above this, the Asta (O), comes with voice-assisted electric sunroof functionality, but it exceeds our budget of Rs 10 lakh.

Tata Altroz

Another hatchback that boasts a 5-star safety rating from GNCAP and is known for its tremendous ride quality is the Tata Altroz. With the 2023 updates, it now offers the sunroof feature in its third base variant, the XM S, which costs Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Additionally, this variant features a voice-assisted sunroof, which is a plus, as no other manufacturer offers this at such a low price.

As for the engine, the only option available with this variant is the 1.2 L Revotron petrol engine, which produces 88 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and only 5-speed manual is available.

Tata Nexon

The second vehicle on the list from Tata is none other than the Nexon, which comes equipped with an electric sunroof. Tata offers this feature starting from the third trim, the Smart+ S, priced at Rs 9.39 lakh. After the Smart+ S, there are ten more variants, each offering a long list of features.

The 1.2L Turbocharged Revotron engine delivers 119 PS and 170 Nm of torque, and it is available with both manual and automatic transmissions.
