KTM recently launched the new RC 200, so obviously, the 2022 KTM RC 390 couldnt be far behind, right? However, the latter hasnt been launched in India yet. But KTM has officially released a new teaser video of the upcoming bike, which confirms that the RC 390 will launch soon. Below here we have listed down some of the key improvements in the new bike. These updates not only make the 2022 RC 390 faster but better suited for both street and track purposes.
Body design, and Ergonomics
The 2022 RC 390 now boasts of a completely new design with MotoGP-inspired graphics that echoes the KTM RC16. The visor unit has been completely revised with a new all-LED headlight unit and integrated LED turn lights. The aerodynamics on the side of the fairing directs some wind towards the engine and some towards the riders legs. The fuel tank is now larger at 13.7-liters and the foldable mirrors are new and wider, along with a new front fender.
The trellis frame is also now lighter by 1.5 kgs from the previous generation. So are the wheels, which now boast of a new bionic design with fewer spokes. This arrangement saves almost 1 kg of unsprung mass and makes the bike quicker around corners.
For the rider's comfort, KTM has raised the clip-on handlebars by 15 mm. Theres a 43 mm WP APEX upside-down fork suspension at the front, and the new WP APEX pre-load adjustable split piston shock absorber at the rear. The seat profile has been changed and extra thought has been given for the pillion rider this time. The separate seat now gets an ergonomic grab handle.
Engine and Transmission
Mechanically, the 2022 KTM RC 390 has remained the same. It continues to be powered by the tried and tested 373 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine, that puts out 42 hp and 37 Nm of torque. The engine mapping remains the same as well, along with the Quickshifter+. Speaking of which, the transmission remains the same 6-speed transmission along with a slipper clutch. The cooling system remains the same with a single radiator, but the redesigned fairing further aids the aids flow towards the engine.
