Available in the international markets in two variants - GT and the Rally spec, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 hosts radical visual changes. The overall design is now slim and sharp than the outgoing model. All LED headlights are redesigned and they are sharp in shape rather than the oval combo of the older model. Also, the exhaust is now more close to the body which indicates Triumph's efforts to increase the maneuverability of the Tiger. The new bike is a well 25 kg lighter than the outgoing model, all thanks to the new aluminum chassis frame.
Technically it uses an all-new 1,160cc, inline-three cylinder engine. This engine is good for a peak power of 147 hp and 130 Nm of peak torque. The new engine is BS-6 compliant as well. For transmission, Triumph uses a 6-speed, slip-assist clutch with quick-shifter support for easy & fast gear shifts. The reworked engine now produces more power than its predecessor as it uses a T-Plane crank design and uneven firing order. This tech revision helps in achieving more low-end tractability as well as thrilling mid-range power.
Triumph sells two models of the Tiger 1200 internationally. The first one is the road-oriented GT which uses Showa suspension with 200mm of travel. Also, the GT comes with 19-inch front and 18-inch rear aluminum cast alloy wheels. The headlight placement is also lower for the GT version. Contrary, the off-road specimen i.e. Rally version uses the Showa suspension with 220mm travel. The beak is longer at the front while the headlights are also placed a tad upright. Triumph provides the rally version with tubeless spoked 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tyre. The Rally variant also comes with a high seat height to accommodate easy off-road riding.
