5 Areas Where Honda City Is Better Than Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus

Skoda Slavia is launching on Feb 28th with the 1.0L TSI and the bigger and more powerful 1.5L TSI will be out on March 3rd. Once launched, this car will directly rival Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz to name a few. In this article, we share with you 5 detailed areas where the Honda City is a better pick than the Skoda Slavia as well as its cousin, VW Virtus. Let's have a look!

Availability of a diesel engine

Honda City

Believe it or not, people who are mostly travelling on the road will always pick the oil burner. The 1.5L i-DTEC diesel unit of Honda City produces 99 bhp with 200 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed stick shift and the ARAI certified fuel economy sticks to 24.1 kmpl. On the other hand, Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus will only get two petrol engines only.

CVT is more reliable

The 1.5L i-VTEC gets an optional CVT compared 7-speed DSG available in the 1.5L TSI of the Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus. The former is good for city use and it is also the most reliable than the 7-speed DSG in the long term.

Better leg space at the rear seat

We have sat in the fifth-gen Honda City as well as the Skoda Slavia. The latter gets a wheelbase of 2651 mm compared to 2600 mm of the City, however, the ease of comfort and the leg space is better than in the fifth-gen City when compared with that of Skoda Slavia. We are yet to test the VW Virtus for the same but expect a similar space as that found in the Skoda Slavia.

A cheaper option is also available

Honda City

Now, if you're a fan of the 1.5L i-VTEC but does not want to splurge close to Rs 11.36 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi on the fifth-gen City then you can get yourself the fourth-gen City. Yes, Honda continues to sell both the generations of City and you get all the useful features with this model too. Mechanically, it is powered by a 1.5L petrol that churns out 118 bhp on tap with 145 Nm of peak torque. This one, however, is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only. The fifth-gen City gets a 6-speed manual as standard and an optional CVT on the offer.

Features like lane watch camera, G-Meter and LED fog lights

Honda City

Lane watch camera is quite an essential feature when you're driving on the road as it detects the presence of any vehicle or an object present in the blind spots. Similarly, the G-meter gives an idea of the G-forces the car is pulling. LED fog lights improve the illumination at night when you're going over bad roads with no lights.
