Anuj Purohit owns a Mahindra XEV 9e - Pack Three Variant 79 kWh in Everest White paint. Also, he has purchased the company-supplied 11.2 kWh AC charger, as this is the first-ever EV bought by Mr. Anuj. Now, talking about some specifications - it is a RWD fastback-shaped SUV with 285 PS and 380 Nm of torque, and the claimed range of the 79 kWh battery pack is 656 km as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2. Now, onto his experience of driving it around 2000 km.

Ownership Experience

So, in conversation with Bunny Punia, Anuj shared that he only takes the XEV 9e out for long travels. Until now, he hasn't driven it much in city traffic, and out of the 2000 km shown in the MID, 90% of it has been recorded on the highways. So, Anuj brings a new and rich experience of travelling in an EV, and also charging it. At the beginning of the video, he first put a lot of emphasis on how much his family is enjoying travelling in this car. They love the space on offer - especially the kids - and found it super cool that there is so much technology in it, and also found it supremely comfortable.

He mentioned that his children, who usually sat in the back seats, often find it so comfortable that they fall asleep on highways, as the sound insulation is perfect, the seats are large and supportive, the AC is fantastic, and the ride is plush. All of that makes it a perfect highway cruiser, which ticks all the other boxes for one family guy.

To add more, the back seats also offer a tremendous amount of headroom, and it will not be an issue at all - even for passengers over 6 feet tall, shares Anuj. He also told us about a hidden feature in the XEV 9e. Beneath the front seats, another AC vent is provided, which helps to cool down the interior swiftly, and its placement is such that no one would notice it quickly.

Moreover, he is also planning to attach iPads to the back of the front seats, which will be done via a mount that Mahindra is going to provide in the coming months. The benefit of this system will be that the iPads will also connect to the front infotainment screen. So, if the owner wants to be chauffeur-driven and sit at the back, he or she will have a dedicated screen to control and navigate through the main infotainment system without sitting in the front.

Range

Now, the most paramount fact shared by Anuj was related to range. So, there is an app called Plug Share, designed for electric vehicle owners. It works just like Google maps, and Apple Maps, but has whole lot of benefits. Simply, add the location you are going to, and all the charging stations falls in the route will appear. This was shared by the Anuj, and he advices that, putting out your detials before heading to any location, will omit the range axiety.

Our guest also shared an important detail about the range. The XEV 9e comes with a built-in navigation app made specially for EVs. Just enter your destination, and it will show the distance, estimated arrival time, and current traffic. What makes it different is that it also tells you how far the EV can go based on the battery level. Plus, it shows how many charging stations are on your route. Even better, once you start driving, the app tells you how much battery will be left when you reach your destination.

Lastly, the charging stations which are on the way will also appear on the head-up display, which is powered by augmented reality. So, 3D navigation arrows, plus the nearest charging station with distance, appear in front of your eyes. One last important piece of information related to range, shared by Anuj, was the "Power Saving Mode," which expands the life of range in simple terms by limiting the speed and throttle response. Basically, a mode which makes full use of each battery percentage and increases the mileage of the vehicle.

Charging Time

Mahindra says the XEV 9e takes 11.7 hours to go from 0 to 100% with a 7.2 kW charger, and 8 hours with an 11.2 kW charger, with a 79 kWh battery pack. That said, usually in electric cars, fast charging happens in the 20% to 80% range; after that, the charging time increases. Now, Anuj shared an interesting detail - this vehicle, even at 80% charge, maintains a charging speed of 40 kW. Even more surprising, at 98%, he has seen a charging speed of 22 kW, which happens because of the larger 79 kWh battery. So, there's more to bigger battery packs than just more power and range.

ADAS

Our guest owns the top-spec Pack Three of the XEV 9e, which is equipped with Level 2 ADAS - which includes 5 radars and 1 vision camera. There are endless features, all of them work perfectly and are meticulously designed for Indian roads. Here is an example of its brilliance shared by Anuj - one day he was travelling on a highway in the middle lane, where he saw another driver in the left lane driving recklessly or not fully attentive. So, the car sensed it, and after checking on all, it moved itself to the right lane on its own - maintaining a healthy distance to avoid any potential accident.

Also, he mentioned that this car has so many features that despite owning it for a month, more time is required to fully explore it. That said, if you want to know some of the top features you get in the XEV 9e, click here.

Lastly, the owner feels satisfied with his purchase and is very proud of the fact that he owns an Indian-born electric SUV that is so good. For an even better experience, check out the video attached here.

Verdict

XEV 9e is selling more than BE 6, despite being expensive, and that's a sign that people have fallen in love with its grandness and luxurious appeal. It's powerful, tech-loaded, spacious, and intelligent. Plus, even in the video, the owner shared that this car can compete with international brands like Tesla, Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Rivian. And with so much range on offer, he drives it just like a regular ICE vehicle, but without emitting any harmful gases into the environment.
