ADAS Differences Between MG Astor & MG Hector: Which One To Buy?

MG Motors has always been at the forefront when it comes to bringing advanced technologies to the mass market cars in India. Whether it be the iSMART-connected car tech or the ADAS tech. Launched in October 2021, the MG Astor became the first MG car and the first car in its segment to offer level-2 ADAS in India. However, now the newly launched 2023 facelifted MG Hector/Hector Plus also gets level-2 ADAS. Both, the MG Astor & the MG Hector/Hector Plus describe their ADAS tech as level-2, but there are some major hardware and feature differences between the ADAS tech of the two MG SUVs. Here we have listed all the hardware and feature differences between the MG Astor and the 2023 MG Hector/Hector Plus.

ADAS features: Top left - Adaptive cruise control, Top right - Auto emergency braking, Bottom left - Lane departure warning, Bottom right - Lane keep assist.

ADAS Differences Between MG Astor & MG Hector: Hardware Difference

The MG Astor gets a total of three radars, unlike a single radar in the 2023 MG Hector. Although both the MG Astor and the 2023 MG Hector/Hector Plus offer a front bottom grill-mounted radar, the MG Astor additionally gets two rear radars mounted on both corners of the rear bumper. This makes the Astor's ADAS capable of detecting rear obstacles too. Also, there's a rear blind spot alert light on the ORVMs of the MG Astor. MG Hector/Hector Plus misses out on this feature too. Below is a table specifying all the hardware differences between the two MG SUVs.

Because of the lack of rear-mounted radars, the 2023 MG Hector/Hector Plus misses out on some of the rear-specific ADAS features that are present in the MG Astor. Below is a table specifying all the feature differences between the two MG SUVs.

Verdict: Both the MG Hector and MG Astor offer forward-specific ADAS features. However, only the MG Astor offers rear-specific ADAS features. The MG Hector offers the ADAS tech in its top-end Savvy Pro trim which is priced between Rs 22.09 lakh to Rs 22.78 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the MG Astor too offers the ADAS tech in its top-end Savvy trim which is priced between Rs 16.79 lakh to Rs 18.42 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the MG Astor much more affordable than the 2023 MG Hector/Hector Plus. Thus, if you are looking for a 6 or 7-seater ADAS-equipped SUV, then the Hector Plus (6 or 7-seater) makes sense. But for those who want a 5-seater ADAS-equipped SUV, the MG Astor makes more sense.
