Fuel prices will not get cheaper, and the environment is not getting better. So, as the world goes mainstream with EVs, India is also gradually joining the trend. For the last few years, the Indian automotive scene has seen quite a few production-ready EVs for sale, and the models range from affordable ones to premium exclusive ones. Speaking of the premium models, one car brand that comes to the minds of almost everybody is Tesla. The good news is that these ultra-modern cars are coming to India but we just don't know when exactly they would launch here. So, as India gears up for the advent of Tesla, here is a list of some premium EVs that you can buy now.
Yes, the arrival of Tesla will make the EV segment more palatable, but right now, the Indian market already has a bunch of such appetising premium EVs. We have compiled a list of these vehicles here, so here it goes:
Tesla Alternatives On Sale in India
Audi e-Tron
The Audi e-Tron was launched in India in two variants - the e-tron 50 and e-tron 55. The former comes packed in with a 71 kWh battery pack that produces 308 bhp and 540 Nm of torque. While the e-tron 55 comes with a 95 kWh battery pack that produces 402 bhp and 664 Nm of torque. Audi claims that the e-tron has a range of 359-484 km in the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test cycle.
And just like its gasoline counterparts, the e-tron also boasts of the iconic signature grille, with matrix LED headlamps, orange brake callipers, 20-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels, and an LED taillight with an LED strip running the length of the boot lid. The interior of the e-tron is an equally luxurious affair for it comes with a panoramic sunroof, virtual cockpit, Audis signature four-spoke steering wheel, 360-degree camera, heads-up display, wireless charging and ambient lighting. Prices for the Audi e-tron 50 starts from Rs. 99.99 lakhs and the e-tron 55 starts from Rs. 1.16 crore.
Audi e-tron Sportback
The Audi e-tron Sportback is based on the same platform as the Audi e-tron, but unlike the e-tron it comes in only one trim - 55. One of the highlights of the e-tron Sportback is that it gets Audis Quattro as standard with air suspension. Besides, the exterior gets the same all LED lighting with matrix LED headlamps and the signature Audi-LED strip with runs the length of the boot lid. Powering the e-tron 55 Sportback is the 95 kWh battery that produces 402 bhp and 664 Nm of torque, and is good for a range of 358 kms. Both the e-Tron and e-Tron Sportback takes up to eight and a half hours for a full charge. And Audi provides a 150 kW DC charger for both the e-Tron and e-Tron Sportback.
Audi e-Tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT is the most performance-oriented EV available in India. It also gets an RS version, and both comes packed in with the 84 kWh battery pack that produces 469 bhp and 630 Nm of torque in the base S version, whereas, 590 bhp and 830 Nm of torque in the RS version, with a range of 383 km.
On the outside, the e-Tron comes rides on 20, five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, and the signature single-frame Audi grille is much more pronounced in the e-tron GT. The interior also feels familiar place and it is very much an Audi cabin. Starting with the virtual cockpit, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, 30-degree camera, etc. Prices for the e-tron GT S start from Rs. 1.80 crore, and for the RS version it starts from Rs. 2.05 crore.
Jaguar I-Pace
The Jaguar I-Pace is another SUV that is currently on sale in India and it is available in three variants: S, SE, and HSE. All three variants are powered by a 901 kWh battery pack with two electric motors to produce a combined output of 389 bhp and 696 Nm of torque. Jaguar provides a 100 kWh rapid charger and it can charge from 0-80% in just 40 minutes with a range of 423 kilometers.
Some of the feature highlights of the Jaguar I-Pace include matrix LED headlamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, a Meridian music system, a 3D sound camera, and leather sports seats to name a few. Prices for the base I-Pace start from Rs. 1.06 crore, the mid-level i-Pace SE starts from Rs. 1.08 crore and the range-topping I-Pace HSE has an ex-showroom price that starts from Rs. 1.12 crore.
Mercedes Benz EQC
The Mercedes Benz EQC is based on its gasoline-version, the GLC. However, it sits on a completely different platform to accommodate the electric powertrain, The EQC is powered by an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery that produces 402 hp and 765 Nm of torque, and just like the e-tron GT it comes with the standard 4MATIC+ all-wheel drivetrain. Its direct competition lies with the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron. Being a Merc, the e-tron comes packed with comfortable features and loaded with equipment for a worrisome drive.
