Bharat NCAP: Which Models Are On The List?
While there is no official confirmation regarding the models whose ratings will be announced soon, earlier in January, Maruti confirmed that its Baleno, Brezza, and Grand Vitara models would undergo testing by Bharat NCAP. There is anticipation that Hyundai India models, such as the new Creta, Verna, and Tucson, may also have their ratings announced. It is possible that ratings for models from both Maruti and Hyundai brands will be revealed.
Bharat NCAP Rating Outcome: Is The New Maruti Swift Set To Make An Appearance?
Additionally, there is significant anticipation surrounding the upcoming launch of the next-generation Maruti Swift in India on May 9th. It is speculated that Swift's rating may be included in the upcoming series of model rating announcements.
The Japanese-spec model of the Swift has already undergone testing by NCAP in its country, achieving a 4-star rating. The Japanese version comes standard with six airbags, and similar safety features, including six standard airbags across all variants, will be available for the upcoming Swift in India. With these safety enhancements, there is optimism for a better rating when tested by Bharat NCAP. The new Swift is also expected to come equipped with additional safety features such as an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), a reversing camera, blind spot detection, and more.

Past Global NCAP Ratings for the Maruti Swift
Looking at the past Global NCAP records of previous generations of the Maruti Swift, the results have been disappointing. In 2014, the test result was particularly dismal, with zero stars for adult occupants and one star for child occupants, despite the Swift being equipped with two airbags. In 2018, there was a slight improvement, but it still achieved only a 2-star rating for both child and adult occupants. Finally, in 2022, it received a 1-star rating for both adult and child occupants.
Over time, the criteria for passing the Global NCAP tests have become more stringent. It remains to be seen if the new Swift will be included in the Global NCAP campaign #SaferCarsForIndia in the near future. If it does undergo testing, there is hope for improved performance and a higher star rating.
