BMW M 1000 R: Powertrain, Hardware And Rivals
The M 1000 R is basically a stripped-down version of BMW's flagship superbike, the M 1000 RR. It runs on the same 999cc inline 4-cylinder engine, but it's been tuned to produce 210 horsepower at 14,500 rpm and 113 nm of torque at 11,000 rpm. The intake system has shorter intake funnels for better performance at high engine speeds. BMW claims this bike can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 280 km/h.
BMW has equipped the M 1000 R with 45mm USD front forks and a mono-shock, both of which can be adjusted for preload, rebound, and compression. The braking system consists of 320mm dual front discs and a single 220mm rear disc with ABS. The standard model gets aluminium forged wheels, while the M model gets carbon wheels. Both come with 120/70 front and 200/55 rear tires. The engine comes with an Anti Hopping Clutch, titanium valves, a new spring assembly on the exhaust side, narrower and lighter cam followers, and optimized camshafts to enhance performance.
Verdict
This new offering comes loaded with features and impressive performance. The price falls within the expected competitive range, but for passionate bike enthusiasts, it might be a tempting choice that's worth considering. BMW's latest bike competes directly with the Kawasaki Z H2, Ducati Streetfighter V4, and the Aprilia Tuono V4.
