Mahindra & Mahindra had showcased the eKUV100 in the Auto Expo 2022, and it was all set to kick in operations to develop and manufacture it on a large scale. However, the operations were interrupted by the COVID pandemic. Having seen multiple spy shots of the testing mules, both camouflaged and stark naked, Mahindra may launch the eKUV100 this year!
Earlier, Mahindra & Mahindra had announced the expected pricing of the eKUV100, which was around Rs. 8.25 lakhs ex-showroom along with the expected range of this EV, but the long term sustenance of this product was a barrier as per the offering as Mahindra's existing electric powertrain products like the Mahindra e2O and the Verito EV didn't see much success. Therefore, it is expected to feature a bigger battery pack but would be pitched under a price tag of Rs. 10 lakhs.
Mahindra & Mahindra has thus consolidated a different brand by the name of Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited (MEML) to categorise EV operations in India. The Mahindra eKUV100 would compete with the likes of the Tata Tigor EV. Even though the chassis and the platforms are pretty different, these vehicles would be comparable in terms of their electric powertrains, range and features. The current generation Tata Tigor EV is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous 55 KW Motor which generates 74 hp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque. This Ziptron powertrain returns a range of 306 kilometres on a single charge and is likely to be upgraded soon as we came across the test mule of a suspected Tata Tigor EV Long-range!

As per the sources, the Mahindra eXUV300 will be launched in the Indian markets in the first quarter of 2023, while the eKUV100 will surely make it to the showrooms by the end of 2022. It is suspected that Mahindra and Mahindra would be replacing the existing e2O, which was based on an advanced powertrain and chassis fetched from the overtaken brand Reva Electric, with the eKUV100.
Mahindra as an automotive manufacturer is clear on its priorities toward electric mobility and has already kicked into the segment of commercial three-wheelers and small size LCVs to replace their internal combustion engines with an electric powertrain. Some of the electric products on offer are the Mahindra Tree and the eAlfa, and we are waiting for them to electrify the passenger vehicle lineup too!
