Maruti Ciaz Discontinued: Officially Confirmed!

Sales have never been an issue with Maruti Suzuki, and while it stays true for most of its vehicles, the Maruti Ciaz was a different case altogether. Back in February 2025, the two topmost trims were pulled off the shelves, it was speculated that the brand is silently killing the mid-size sedan; there was no official confirmation on the future of this most economical model in its class. Fast forward to today, the official statement of Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, in an interview to a reputed media house, on being asked about the Ciaz's future, said, "From time to time, based on the market needs and feedback of the customers, we keep on revalidating our product portfolio. With respect to the Ciaz, we have taken a call that we need to stop the production, and then again we will be taking a call based on market requirements."

Notably, Ciaz, the most affordable in its class, received no substantial upgrade since its facelift launch in 2018 and was already down on the priority list of potential buyers due to the outdated package. The final nail in the coffin was the dwindling sales of sedans in general, with the Indian market currently bitten by the SUV bug. As per the data, sedans account for just 10% of the overall passenger vehicle sales, and do note that these include the mid-size, full-size, and compact sub-4-meter sedans in the category. On the flip side, the SUV sales stay at a strong 55% of the overall number.

The Maruti Ciaz has experienced a consistent decline in sales over the past four fiscal years. From 15,869 units in FY22, sales dropped to 13,610 in FY23, further decreased to 10,337 in FY24, and reached a low of 8,402 units in FY25. Notably, March 2025 sales dipped below 700 units, significantly lower than the Volkswagen Virtus, which consistently achieves sales figures close to 18,00 to 2,000 units and also leads the segment in sales.
However, the Ciaz is still listed on the official website, and it could be a move to clear out the remaining stock and then pull it off the website.
Verdict
Maruti Ciaz has been a top-choice for those who were looking for a practical family sedan which they could fill, shut, and forget. It claimed a mileage of 20.8 kmpl and offered a lot of space inside the cabin, but with no timely updates and the SUV boom, the brand silently made the sedan end its life as the buyers moved on to the alternatives.
