Force Gurkha Pickup Truck - Better Than Bolero Camper?
Force is developing a pickup version of its new Gurkha. The latest spy shots show a test mule out on the highway. The red colour truck was seen with all the changes carried forward from the new Gurkha. Suspected to launch in the commercial market, it'll be a direct rival to the segment king Bolero Camper. The test mule is seen with LED headlights, foglights, a large snorkel, and even dual-tone alloy wheels. All these elements were part of updates on the new Gurkha. The interior details are not visible but it surely has an AC and EPS. Moreover, we expect that Force can equip it with a touchscreen infotainment (optional).
The single-cab version has a white colour flatbed that possibly can get a payload capacity of 1 tonne. Another interesting fact is that it'll get a 4X4 drivetrain. The rear differential and transfer case visible in the spy images hint towards the 4X4. On the recent Gurkha update, Force switched the MLD lever with an electronic switch. We suspect the same on the camper version; if it gets the 4X4.
Powering this single-cab pickup version is the expected 2.6L turbo-diesel engine. It is the same powertrain that is used by the new Gurkha 3-Door & 5-Door versions. While in the Gurkha this engine makes 140PS of peak power & 320 Nm of peak torque, these values will be de-tuned for the pickup. It'll come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Currently, no details regarding its launch timeline & expected price are known. Upon its debut, it'll compete with the Mahindra Bolero Camper. Hence, its pricing would be in the same ballpark.

Verdict
Force Motors has been a key player in the commercial vehicle market. However, the pickup segment sales is largely owned by the Bolero Camper. Force can use its expertise of the CV segment and its reliable mechanical setup would result in a good & competent product. We're hopeful to see a production-version of this pickup in the coming months.
