Honda sells the older iterations of both the City and Jazz here in India in 2022. But for these models, the recent GNCAP crash test results are pretty amazing.
Honda sells the fourth-generation City here in India that slots in as the base model, below the fifth-generation City. It is available in two trims - SV and V, and Honda retails both the models at Rs. 9.29 lakh and Rs. 9.99 lakh, (ex-showroom price, Delhi), respectively. It is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces 119 Ps and 145 Nm of torque, and it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Some of the features on-board the City are a touch-screen infotainment system, a height-adjustable drivers seat, and power-folding ORVMs. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and parking sensors.
On the other hand, the Honda Jazz is priced between Rs. 7.71 lakh to Rs. 9.95 lakh, and it is available in three trims - V, VX, and ZX. Mechanically, it gets just one engine option, i.e. the 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 90 Ps and 110 Nm of torque, and it is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT option. Some of the standout features of the Honda Jazz include a sunroof, cruise control, LED headlamps, paddle shifters, and a 7-inch infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Both the fourth-generation City and Jazz sit on the same Hondas Global Small Car Platform. So, when it comes to their overall GNCAP safety ratings, both are rated the same at 4 stars. But the Honda City overperforms the Jazz in certain areas and vice versa. Below we have discussed in detail of the crash test results of both the cars
4th-generation Honda City (GNCAP score - 4 stars)
The fourth-generation Honda City scored 12.3 points out of 17 in Adult protection. Both the driver and passenger frontal airbag deployed well, and the dummy had minimal marks on the body. On the other hand, in the Child Protection section, the Honda City scored an astounding 38.27 points out of 49. The devoid of a 3-point seatbelt in the middle rear seat cost it some points.
Honda Jazz (GNCAP scores 4 stars)
The Honda Jazz managed to far slightly better than the City in the Adult protection segment with 13.89 points out of 17 points. But when it came to Child protection safety, since the base Jazz model does not offer ISOFIX seats as standards, it loses out on some points and scored 31.54 points out of 49. However, the Honda Jazz GNCAP score results are definitely better, if not on par with, some of its Indian competition.
