KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Hero Xoom 160 launched at Rs. 1.48 lakhs
- First-ever maxi-sports scooter from Hero
- Rivals the Yamaha Aerox 155 in the 150cc segment
Hero Xoom 160 is the first ever maxi sports scooter from the brand which has generally stuck to lower cc scooters until now, focusing more on the mass market segment. But with the Auto Expo 2025, things have changed and the homegrown brand has rolled the dice for play at performance scooters. However, the field is not empty, as it directly lands in the playground of Yamaha Aerox 155m which has been around for some time now, and that too with tasteful success. So which one is the better pick? Read on as we compare both these rivals side by side and come to a conclusion section by section in this article. Styling And Dimensions
Hero Xoom 160 | Yamaha Aerox 155
Ground clearance | 155mm | 145mm |
Wheelbase | 1348mm | 1350mm |
Seat height | 787mm | 790mm |
Fuel capacity | 7 litres | 5.5 litres |
Weight | 142kg | 126kg |
While the table above is self-explanatory, the Hero Xoom gets higher ground clearance, with a bigger fuel tank, and is also heavier than the Yamaha Aerox 155. However, it is the Aerox that gets a higher seat height and a slightly longer wheelbase although by just 2 mm, but since we are talking about concrete numbers, it has to be mentioned! Although both carry almost nearing numbers, the weight of the Xoom 160 will feel more planted on the road, also meaning that the engine will have to work extra moving that weight as well.
However, when it comes to looks, both the scooters look like a typical maxi-scooter with a sculpted body frame with a swept-up exhaust and chunky alloys, and a single-piece seat raised towards its tail. This is a subjective call where both of them look quite aggressive, personally, my pick would be the Yamaha Aerox 155, but for some others, it is the Hero Xoom 160 that looks better.
Hardware
The Xoom 160 and Aerox 155 exhibit subtle differences in their chassis and suspension. The Xoom boasts a slightly larger front disc and a wider front tire, suggesting a focus on stability and braking performance. It's interesting to note that the Xoom runs on more off-road-oriented tires, while the Aerox favors road-biased rubber. A key concern with the Aerox has always been its relatively stiff rear suspension. It remains to be seen whether the Hero can provide a more comfortable ride quality on Indian roads, something we can tell only after we test out the scooter in real life, until then, check out the table for concrete numbers.
Hero Xoom 160 | Yamaha Aerox 155

Xoom 160 | Aerox 155 | |
Engine | 156cc | 155cc |
Power | 14.4hp at 8,000rpm | 14.7hp at 8,000rpm |
Torque | 14Nm at 6,500rpm | 13.9Nm at 6,500rpm |
Pricing
While the Hero Xoom 160 price starts at Ex-showroom Rs. 1.48 lakhs, the Yamaha Aerox 155 starts at Rs. 1.49 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 1.53 lakhs. With pricing having little to almost no effect in such close calls, it is the trust and appeal that ultimately drives consumer behavior.
Verdict
The performance scooter market for India is relatively new and while it has just a small number of players, the competition is picking up pace. How willing are people to shift to a higher powered scooter is something that will require a significant effort to make it as a lucrative option. But with the Hero branding, it could at last enter into the mainstream choices as well. But,m we will have to wait for this one to take shape!
