Honda Cars India celebrates 25 glorious years of their most famous sedan, City, in the Indian market. First introduced in 1998, this car is a pure example of luxury and performance. Honda has sold over 9 lakh units of City in both Indian as well as global markets.
Currently, on sale is the fifth-gen Honda City in the Indian market and in this article, we will be sharing blasts from the past. Right from First-gen City to the latest one, we will be sharing some highlights of the same!
First-gen City
It was introduced in 1998 and was available in the market till 2003. The petrol engine produced 106 hp in those times and it was appealing not only to the general customers but also to racing enthusiasts. Its facelift was also launched in the Indian market.

Second-gen City
Also known as the Dolphin design, this City was immensely popular among the masses because of its styling. It got a new 1.5L i-DSI petrol motor that also gave an improved fuel economy. It also got a CVT unit which was a first for any car in the Indian market. Along with this, it also got ABS which was considered a premium feature in those times.
Third-gen City
Following the success of the second-gen City, this third-gen version was launched in 2008 and went all the way till 2013. The radical, arrow-shot design made its way to the customers and was accepted by all. Interestingly, even though it was available with a petrol motor, the sales of this City were commendable even at those times. This one offered ABS with EBD and dual airbags at the front as standard across all variants.

Fourth-gen City
It was with this model that Honda introduced the much-awaited 1.5L i-DTEC diesel motor to the City. The 1.5L i-VTEC petrol remained the same and also got a CVT. The diesel motor continued with a 6-speed manual transmission only.
Fifth-gen City
This one was launched in July 2020 and it was everything which the previous versions of the City missed out on. Better in terms of space, refinement, safety and features, the fifth-gen City really took up to the market. Honda also added the City e:HEV to the fleet which is the first budget supreme hybrid electric sedan in the Indian market.
