Honda Civic is one of the most popular models from the Japanese carmaker in the world. Honda introduced the Civic moniker in its 8th generation in India and that won hearts of many. Honda, then, skipped the 9th generation of the Civic, which was quite bland, to be honest. Honda ignited a new life in the executive sedan segment with the 10th gen Civic and it became the segment-best seller instantly. Today we tell you everything about the Honda Civic in its first look review.
Honda Civic First Look Review - Exteriors
Honda Civic is the most stylish executive sedan of India. No one can disagree. As the next-gen Octavia is inching towards its India launch, Hyundai is going to take more than a year to launch the next-gen Elantra in India. And we all know what happened with the reliable and sweet Altis. Whatever! The body lines of the Civic are very crisp and the tapering off roofline is the main highlight.

Some say that the front of the Civic has a lot of unbearable chrome, but that is now Honda's signature. Take the new City, for instance, that too gets big chrome slab. Give it time and the chrome will grow on you. The Civic gets LED lights all around - the front gets LED headlights, LED fog lights and LED turn indications. The rear taillights are LEDs and light up in a pattern which looks amazing in dark. The side profile is taller than before, thanks to added ground clearance and diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels. Now you won't be acting like a turtle on speed breakers anymore.
Honda Civic First Look Review - Interiors
We all loved the old Honda Civic for its quirky dual-chamber cluster and sporty dashboard. Honda didn't cross the boundaries of design this time by opting for a soothing design. The Civic packs in a lot of good stuff, like lane watch camera and digital instrument cluster. The dashboard retains the waterfall appearance and it is all black. The driver's display is a 3-pot unit - the main screen in the middle flanked with fuel and temperature gauges.
The dashboard gets stitched leather which looks lavish and a wooden trim running across the width of the dashboard. The dashboard connects to the centre tunnel, leaving a hollow storage space underneath. The lower part gets the leather-wrapped gear lever and AC controls. Honda has also plonked in e-parking brake, freeing up the space for centre cup holder along with an armrest. The roof gets controls for the sunroof along with the sunroof itself. The seats of the Civic are in beige colour and the rear seat also gets centre armrest.
Honda Civic First Look Review - Safety and Features
Honda has left no stones unturned to pack the Civic to the brim in terms of safety and features. It is the upcoming Octavia which may call the Civic under-equipped. Talking about the in-cabin features, we get digital driver's display, 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable driver's seat, height-adjustable seatbelts, electric sunroof, cruise control, keyless entry & go, rear AC vents, tilt & telescopic steering and many more features.
Talking about the safety kit, which is in abundance; we get six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Agile Handling Assist (ASA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), lane watch camera, three-point seatbelts at the rear, ABS, EBD, ESP, pop-up hood, ISOFIX mount points, multi-view rear camera and many more features. The lane watch camera gets activated every time you put the indicator stock tot he left. You can also put the lane watch camera on by pressing a button on the indicator stock itself.
Honda Civic First Look Review - The Propulsors
Honda Civic gets a diesel engine, finally! Control the excitement as petrol is still the main highlight. You ask why? The diesel engine of the Civic displaces 1597cc churning out a modest 118bhp and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual. Just to set some benchmark, the Mahindra XUV300 also churns out the same 300 Nm of torque. The engine is powerful and still better than the Elantra diesel with just 113bhp.
The petrol engine of the Civic is the good old 1.8-litre i-VTEC which churns out 140bhp and 174 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT box. The petrol engine is better as it gets paddle shifters, sports mode and direct injection technology. Honda should have also offered an option of a 6-speed manual as the CVT deteriorates the VTEC experience. Nonetheless, the Civic gets some dependable engines but the petrol engine is the preferred choice.
