Is The New MG Comet EV 2023 Made For You? Explained In Just 5 Points

MG Comet EV carries the tag of India's most compact car with a length of under 3 meters. This undercuts even the size of Tata Nano when it was having its run. With an all-electric 4-seater car, MG aims at the future of mobility, that is electric, as of now. The developments in Hydrogen as a fuel are underway as well, but that's a topic for some other day. Today, what we have here is whether this MG Comet EV is the car for you or not.

Let us explain what kind of people will be satisfied with the Comet, and those who are better considering some of its alternatives.

1. Short City Runs To Work Or Errands- MG Comet Is Here

Well, it's the compact form factor and the small wheels with it that makes it a perfect vehicle for your daily run to the office. Or you need to do things around the city and come back home, it can be the ride. The claimed range of 230 km, in real life, will be different, but should be enough for the tasks.

2. Not Your Long-Range Companion

Point 1 gets us to our second point. This is not the vehicle for your long highway runs. Why? Firstly, it has a range of 230 km and that is it. Plus, it depends on your driving dynamics as to how many miles can you pull out from this one. Secondly, it's the small tires. Although it takes bumps and city roads quite efficiently, highways are not its forte. The small size does start to impact the comfort on highways.

What adds more to this drawback is the missing fast charging support. You have to charge it at normal speed, which in a different city, could add a substantial amount of time to your itinerary. So, if most of the time you are on the highways, you will struggle with the Comet EV.

3. Compact Vehicle For When The Roads Get Jammed

Where you'll find it a real mover, is the jam-packed traffic. The small size and shorter turning radius make it the perfect traffic car. You can squeeze into tight spaces and U-turns are quick with this one. It will surely cut down some of your driving time that you spend, just waiting for the line to move. After all, who doesn't like getting home a little early?

4. A Family Mover? Not Quite So

A big family on vacation? Comet is best left at home. However, you can keep it as a secondary vehicle in case of big families. But the seats are only 4, and if they are upright, you cannot carry stuff with you. The best it can do is 4 people at once, or 3 people with one seat folded flat if you want to carry little luggage as well. If you are a family of 4 and without things to carry, hop in the MG Comet and you are good to go. ( But remember, in the city limits!)

5. MG Comet- High On Features, But Not On Boot Space

While the features of the MG Comet EV are plentiful, including wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, a Fully digital drivers display, smart entry, and more. But it gets beaten up in boot space. If 2 people are traveling, then there is plenty of space to keep the luggage, otherwise, it's simply 4 people and a backpack car. For some, this won't be a deterrent while for others, it will be 'the' deterrent.

VERDICT- While the MG Comet EV is the most compact car in India, it comes with some challenges and pros. While it is a perfect city commuter for short runs and traffic jams, it is still range bound and comes with range anxiety. But makes for a sensible city ride. After reading the article, you can surely rank the pros and cons for yourself and decide if this is the workhorse you need.
