Kia Carens Diesel Manual Coming Back With 'Premium'?
Last year, Kia replaced the diesel manual gearbox on the Premium variant of the Carens MPV with an iMT transmission. Notably, this is the entry-spec variant and starts at Rs. 10.45 lakhs ex-showroom. Courtesy of this, it misses out on key features including an infotainment system, automatic climate control, cruise control, and other premium tech. It still offers 6 airbags, a digital instrument cluster, TPMS, all four power windows, and more.
As per the latest rounds of leaks, the diesel manual with the Premium variant will also be the new base variant of this MPV. Interstingly, you currently get 7 variants to select from along with 3 powertrain options including both petrol and diesel options.
In terms of mechanics, the Kia Carens comes with 3 powertrain options. You get a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol which is good for 115PS/ 144 Nm, a 1.5 lire turbo petrol putting out 160Ps/253 Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel unit churning out 116Ps/250 Nm. The transmission options include an iMT, a 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed DCT.

Kia Cars To Get Expensive From April 2024 By This Much
In a recent development, Kia cars are set to get expensive from April 1, 2024. This update is conveyed by the brand and the price hike will be implemented across its entire portfolio. While the hike will be up to three percent, this is the first time the brand is revising its price list in 2024. Brand says that the increase aims to offset the rising costs along with supply chain factors. In its present portfolio, Kia retails the Kia Seltos, Sonet, Carens, and the EV6 MPV from its outlets.
Verdict
The return of diesel manual with the Premium base variant will make it the new base variant in the line-up. This is a move likely stemming from the demand of buyers where conventional buyers favour their typical manual transmission. Let's wait and watch when the brand reintroduces the above said combination.
