Mahindra & Mahindra is the first automobile manufacturer in India to set forth for a venture into the unknown with the brand's electric vehicles. Mahindra & Mahindra has hit a new milestone without leaving any stones unturned. The Automaker has crossed the 300 million kilometres milestone becoming the first original equipment manufacturer to achieve this stance in the country.
M&M initially began its EV venture by making electric four-wheelers as a personal mobility solution, However, they soon realized the importance and demand for EVs in the commercial segment. As a result of which, the automaker started making the 'e-Verito' which is a sedan and the Treo three-wheeler variants.

The company stated that the 300 million Kilometres achievement is a result of Mahindra's four-wheeler EVs surpassing the 260 million Kms and the Treo three-wheelers reaching 35 million Kilometres. It is understood that in this process of attaining the unachievable, Mahindra has attained 30,000 MT of CO2 emission savings which according to experts is equal to planting 1.3 million trees in the country.
The company has been trying to produce EVs that have a low cost of ownership when compared to its Internal combustion vehicle counterparts. This move has been appreciated by the country and its governments. All-in-all the production and demand in the EV sector have gradually increased with this move from Mahindra & Mahindra.
M&M has revealed that the EV portfolio which they have created is just the start of a mega project for introducing newer EVs in the market. The electric Atom is the one which they are keen on launching by the Financial Year 2022 which will be followed by the introduction of a new Treo Three-wheeler which is a new product development based on the platform -Last Mile Mobility. They are also planning on presenting the UDO, a trendy two-seater electric pod that was a concept showcased in the Auto Expo of 2020.
The company has plans to release an electric version of the current Jeeto by the FY2024 which will be followed by an electric pick-up truck. The company also anticipates that around 40 to 45% of electric vehicles will be sold before the year 2025 in India.

In addition to all this, the company has plans to add electric variants to the existing vehicles such as the ekuv100 and the eXuv300 crossover. The launch of these vehicles can be expected by end of this year or at the beginning of next year- 2022. Interestingly, M&M has invested Rs.3,000 crore in the EV sector for the next three years.
