MG Astor Base Model To Get Humble
The base model of the MG Astor, known as the Sprint, is set to undergo several changes. Notably, it will lose the chrome accents on the grille and replace the artificial leather steering wheel with a polyurethane option. Additionally, the Sprint variant will no longer feature the badging on the boot lid. Both the Sprint and the upper Shine variants will receive a subtly altered headlamp design, likely eliminating some of the refractive glowing elements in the headlamp cluster. However, the DRLs, projector headlamp units, and other essential features of the Astor base variant will remain intact. On top of all this, it will also offer a clear distinction between higher trims and entry-level variants.
As for the MG ZS EV, The base model of the MG ZS EV, known as the Executive, will see a few adjustments. It will no longer feature the "ELECTRIC" badging on both sides of the fender. Similar to the Astor, the ZS Executive will also receive a subtly updated design for the headlamps. Other higher variants will continue just as they are without any tweaks to aesthetics or electronics, just like the MG Astor.
Verdict
The move to alter the base model is just to create a divide between the entry level and the higher trims while simultaneously adding to the profit margins of the brand. MG has been doing quite well in the Indian market and with the Windsor EV, has shattered the EV bookings record with 15,000 booked in the first day itself, which is the highest for any EV in the country.
