KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • MG Windsor EV unlimited free fast charging offer amended
  • Now capped at 1000 units for one year
  • Was announced with no upper cap for the early buyers

The early bird buyers of the MG Windsor EV had a remarkable upside where they were handed complimentary free fast charging support, making the overall package even more lucrative with the first-ever Baas ownership option for the Indian market. However, now the brand has updated its terms and conditions, limiting the free charging to just 1000 units, after which the owners will have to pay the stipulated charging cost. MG Windsor Free Fast Charging For Early Birds Now Restricted To 1000 Units

JSW MG Motor India has recently revised its free fast charging policy for MG Windsor EV owners who purchased their vehicles before December 31, 2024. Initially offering seemingly 'unlimited' free charging, MG has now introduced a 1,000-unit limit for these customers. This change, effective February 7, 2025, has raised concerns among early adopters. While the original terms and conditions acknowledged the possibility of limitations or restrictions, they did not explicitly state a specific usage cap. Another thing to note is that the brand may also introduce a weekly or monthly limit under this offer in the future if the need arises.

Moreover, the agreement included a clause granting MG the right to modify or terminate the offer without prior notice. This recent update, however, has solidified these limitations, potentially impacting the long-term ownership experience for some Windsor EV owners. The silver lining for this move, however, is that MG Motor India has clarified that the recently introduced 1,000-unit limit on free fast charging for early Windsor EV owners will not retroactively penalize past usage. This policy adjustment, effective February 7, 2025, aims to curb potential misuse of the initial unlimited free charging offer while prioritizing long-term battery health. However, for some users, it will be a new way of life, and they will have to make adjustments as per the new policy update, enforcing more judicious usage of their single-charge range.

Battery And Range Details

The MG Windsor EV draws its power from a 38 kWh battery pack, seamlessly integrated with a single electric motor. This potent combination delivers a robust 136 PS of power and a substantial 200 Nm of torque, ensuring spirited performance. With a claimed range of 332 km on a single charge, the Windsor EV offers ample driving range for daily commutes and weekend getaways. Moreover, the Windsor EV supports DC fast charging, enabling a rapid recharge in approximately 55 minutes, minimizing downtime and maximizing convenience for owners.

Verdict

The capping at early bird offer could be a possibily due to a lot of underlying reasons. While the fast charging on a very frequent basis degraded the battery life more rapidly, and could also be due to the fact that the fast charging network was undergoing a bit more stress due to constant tussle for a charging dock. This move will restrain those buyers who were using the service more frequently, adding another cost to their EV operations.
