2025 Kia Seltos Hybrid Spied Testing: Silhouette Appears Same, But...
Recent spy shots have revealed the next-generation Kia Seltos, codenamed SP3 Proto. While heavily camouflaged, the SUV's design cues are starting to emerge. The overall silhouette of the new Seltos appears similar to the current model but with significant updates to the front and rear styling. The front fascia features a bold new design with distinctive headlights and a prominent grille, reminiscent of Kia's latest design language. The rear end, influenced by the Kia EV5, sports a sleek and modern look with redesigned taillights. While the exact details are still under wraps, the next-gen Seltos is expected to offer a familiar aura enhanced with its new design language.
Fresh Interior And New Features
The next-generation Kia Seltos is set to receive a significant interior overhaul. Spy shots reveal that the interior design will draw inspiration from the Kia EV3, featuring similar elements like the seat design, door trims, and headrests. The second row will sport dual-tone seats, adding a touch of vibrancy to the cabin and while the dashboard and cockpit remain concealed, it's expected that the new Seltos will feature a new dashboard layout. Ambient lighting is also likely to be incorporated, enhancing the overall cabin ambiance along with a redesigned steering wheel with a new two-spoke design replacing the current three-spoke unit. However, we would have to wait this one out as well and these are merely the most practical speculations at this point.

Powertrain: Where It Gets Even More Interesting!
The next-generation Kia Seltos is expected to offer a hybrid powertrain option, similar to the one found in the Kona Hybrid. This setup would combine a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 32 kW electric motor, delivering a combined output of around 140bhp and 265 Nm of torque. Kia is also considering an optional electronic all-wheel-drive system for the Seltos Hybrid, utilizing the electric motor to power the rear wheels. This move aligns with Kia's broader strategy to introduce nine hybrid models by 2028, catering to diverse customer preferences and addressing fluctuating demand for pure electric vehicles. The usual engine options are expected to be retained alongside this new addition.
Production of the new-generation Seltos is expected to commence in August 2025, with availability expected in showrooms by the end of the following year as for now.
Verdict
The introduction of a petrol-hybrid variant for the next-generation Kia Seltos could significantly boost its appeal, making it a strong contender in the segment. This move not only positions the Seltos to compete with petrol SUVs like the Maruti Grand Vitara but also attracts buyers in regions with stricter diesel vehicle regulations. By offering a petrol-hybrid option, Kia can extend the vehicle's lifespan up to 15 years, compared to the 10-year limit for diesel vehicles in certain areas.
