Ola Electric Is Planning To Sell Not Just One But Four Bikes

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ola Electric's first electric motorcycle, the Roadster, is set to release in 2026.
  • The company's spokesperson elaborated on their future plans in detail.
  • Hero MotoCorp, a major manufacturer, will also enter this segment by 2026.

Ola Electric is gearing up to launch its first motorcycle in the financial year 2026. Additionally, Ola aims to launch three more models to enter the mainstream motorcycle segment. Last year, the company presented four concepts: Diamondhead, Adventure, Roadster, and Cruiser. Although they planned to present these bikes sooner, things didn't go as expected.

Bhavish Aggarwal's representatives mentioned this while filing the papers for the initial public offering. Let's understand a bit more about this, but make sure to join our 91Wheels WhatsApp Group to stay updated on the latest automotive news and industry insights.

What Ola Electric Really Said?

While presenting the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) papers before SEBI and the IPO, the EV maker stated, "We expect to begin delivery of the motorcycles in the first half of fiscal 2026." They also added, "We plan to further expand our product portfolio to cover mass-market motorcycles, targeting a wider range of consumers across various product types and price points in the long term."

We believe the company's first electric motorcycle could be the Roadster, especially since draft images were leaked a few months ago. The Roadster is expected to offer performance comparable to a 150 cc bike and is anticipated to be priced between Rs 1.4 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh. Additionally, the electric automaker recently filed three patents for motorcycle design and a portable electric battery.

In India, the electric motorcycle market currently makes up less than 1%, while electric scooters are gradually gaining popularity. This limited growth is primarily due to the small number of automakers in the segment, with only Revolt and Ultraviolette offering products.

Ola Electric spokespersons highlighted this issue, stating, "Limited options have restricted EV penetration in the motorcycle segment to less than 1%, with a significant presence of EVs in the over Rs 1 lakh price segment. With the strengthening of supply in popular price segments through R&D and technological advancements, penetration in the electric motorcycle segment is expected to see an uptick."

Hero Motorcorp electric bike

A few months ago, news broke that Hero Motor Corp will enter this sector by 2025-26 with six products in partnership with the Vida range and four products with Zero Motors. Upon release, the first motorcycle is most likely to be priced at Rs 4 to 5 lakhs, and it will be a premium one.

Ola Electric already dominates the segment, holding over 30% of the market share with scooters like the S1 Pro, S1 Air, and S1 X. It will be interesting to see how they perform when they launch their motorcycles.

Verdict

Ola Electric's planning and preparation may have been delayed to present their first bike by 2024. However, this delay signifies a positive approach, allowing the manufacturer ample time for meticulous design, R&D, and ensuring exceptional quality. This strategy aims to replicate the market dominance achieved by their S1 Pro scooter.
