Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 - Details
It is no hidden fact that RE is developing multiple bikes based on its 650cc platform. The huge success of the Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 has proved that there is potential in this segment. Hence, RE is making a nimble yet powerful scrambler. This bike is suspected to be called the 'Sherpa 650'. However, it has already been spied on multiple times but not this closely. This time, a test mule of it was seen resting roadside after a test run. The test bike is loaded with OEM accessories and its design details are also revealed.
It largely looks similar to the Interceptor, on which it is based also. But, there are some noticeable differences. For example, it gets AT tyres, a reworked chassis with a short swingarm. The suspension is also different as it uses USD forks at the front. Also, it gets spoked rims and an all-new two-in-one exhaust system. We spied this bike on test a few months back and posted a video as well that captured its exhaust note. If you've not seen it, watch it below.
Meanwhile, its riding posture mimics a typical scrambler. It gets a single-piece seat that looks comfortable from distance. Additionally, the switchgear also looks similar to the new Super Meteor 650. The rear end gets a short tail design with a round LED taillight. However, we suspect it will get the same semi-digital instrument console as the Interceptor. Speaking of its mechanicals, it'll get the same 648cc parallel-twin engine but in a different state of tune. Also, the gear ratios on it might be revised for an enthusiastic trail riding experience. Moreover, the test bike has AUX lights and a short flyscreen fitted to it. It also gets an underbelly protection guard, headlight guard, & even a radiator guard.
Verdict
In the recent past, the ADVs and Scramblers have picked up pace in India. Their market is rapidly growing and a powerful yet affordable Scrambler will make sense. Hence, RE is developing the Sherpa which is expected to debut by late 2023. Also, we suspect it will be priced around the Interceptor itself.
