Pros & Cons of Royal Enfield Classic 650
Should I buy the Classic 650?
The Classic 650 is certainly an option for someone who seeks the traits and qualities of the Classic in a bigger and better package. Yes, it is the heaviest RE till now, and we can expect a stiffer ride quality given the sub-frame derived from the Shotgun 650. However, the proven 648cc engine continues to offer solid performance, and the bike also looks and feels premium for its price.
- The Classic 650 looks familiar, but it is instantly recognizable as a Classic in a slightly bigger package. It retains the teardrop shaped fuel tank, the round LED headlight flanked by pilot lamps on either side. However, the twin pea-shooter exhaust pipes make the bike look complete.
- There are four colour schemes on offer; Vallam Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue, Teal, and Black Chrome. While the first two are fairly new additions, the latter two have been seen on its predecessor, the Classic 500. This DNA is further reinforced by the removable pillion seat; another trait of the original Classic 500 shown back in 2013.
Classic 650 body specifications:
Seat Height | 800 mm |
Weight | 243 kg |
Wheel Size | 100/90-19 inch & 140/70 R18 inch |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 14.8 liters |
- The Classic 650 is powered by the same 648cc, twin-cylinder powertrain paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. Like with most bikes on this platform, this powertrain continues to produce 46.3bhp at 7250rpm and 52.3Nm of torque at 5650rpm. We can expect the familiar linear acceleration with precise fueling and a good spread of torque all around.
- The Classic 650 is built on a tubular steel spine frame, and it shares its rear sub-frame with the Shotgun 650. It makes use of 43mm conventional telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers, with 120mm and 90mm of travel respectively. The 800mm seat height should make it fairly accessible, but with a kerb weight of 243kg, the Classic 650 is the heaviest RE motorcycle yet.
- For braking, it makes use of a 320mm front disc with a dual-piston floating calliper, along with a 300mm rear disc, also with a dual-piston floating calliper.
Classic 650 engine specifications:
Engine Displacement | 647.95 cc |
Top Speed | 157 kmph |
Power | 46.3bhp @ 7250 rpm |
Torque | 52.3 Nm @ 5650 rpm |
- The Classic 650 keeps things simple, and Royal Enfield has taken a conscious decision to not over-load the bike with too many features. It keeps things just right, with the analogue speedometer and a digital fuel display, along with a tripper navigation pod. Some other things include dual-channel ABS, a USB port, a slip-and-assist clutch, and a removable rear seat.
Classic 650 features:
GPS & Navigation | Yes |
USB charging port | Yes |
Instrument Console | Semi Digital |
