Value for Money Amidst Industry-Wide Hikes

skoda kylaq side

Initially, Skoda had linked the introductory prices of the Kylaq to a milestone of 33,333 bookings. However, despite the car being on sale for four months, the company has extended the price freeze, ensuring potential buyers get the same deal they would have at launch. This move comes at a time when rival brands have raised prices due to increased input costs, making the Kylaq an even better option in the highly competitive sub-4m SUV segment.

What the Skoda Kylaq Brings to the Table

Skoda Kylaq: Design

skoda kylaq grille

The Kylaq sports Skodas signature design language, featuring a bold black "Butterfly" grille, sharp dual-pod LED headlights, and sleek LED DRLs. The contrast elements, such as the blacked-out bumper mid-section and roof rails, enhance its rugged yet sophisticated appeal. The rear profile continues this theme with a wraparound taillamp design, a black strip bearing the Skoda branding, and a silver-accented bumper.

Skoda Kylaq: Feature-Rich and Top-Notch Safety

Inside, the Kylaq greets passengers with a dual-tone black and grey interior, a free-standing 10.1-inch infotainment display, and an 8-inch digital driver's display. The cabin offers a mix of functionality with aesthetics, integrating premium touches like a leather-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel and chrome-accented AC vents. Comfort is further elevated with features such as a single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charging and ventilated front seats.

Safety remains a priority, with the Kylaq offering six airbags as standard, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The SUV has also secured a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the Kylaq houses a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine, which is capable of delivering 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. Available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, the SUV offers a balance of efficiency and performance, with mileage figures of 19.68 kmpl (MT) and 19.05 kmpl (AT).

Skoda has tuned the Kylaq's suspension to offer an engaging driving experience. The Kylaq has great high-speed stability, well-controlled body roll and quick steering. There is no doubt in saying that the Kylaq is a fun-to-drive vehicle. But the car's suspension is on the firmer side, ensuring a planted ride even on less-than-perfect surfaces.

Skoda Kylaq: Competition

With its current pricing, the Kylaq finds itself positioned against formidable rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO and the Maruti Brezza. However, given Skoda's decision to maintain pricing in a period where most manufacturers have introduced hikes, the Kylaq emerges as an attractive option.

For buyers exploring alternatives within the same budget, options such as the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Amaze, or entry-level variants of larger SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos also come into play. However, for those prioritizing a premium brand with a strong safety record and dynamic road manners, the Kylaq remains a strong contender.

Verdict

With Skoda extending its introductory pricing for a limited time, the Kylaq presents an opportunity for buyers to lock in a premium SUV at an attractive cost. While the brand has not confirmed whether prices will rise post-April 30, the likelihood remains high, given industry trends. If the Kylaq is on your radar, now might be the best time to purchase before a potential hike makes it less of a steal.
