Tata Sierra SUV Test Runs Underway

The latest sightings after the Auto Expo reveal happen to be in Pune, where the big-size SUV was seen rolling on roads under heavy camo. While it is likely to be the ICE version, the EV model will be launched to cover the ICE and EV combo that Tata is known for. The SUV looks big and bold with an upright boxy design along with an expansive glass area all around. This is the stand-out part that the Sierra was known for and this will again be its main selling point. A big-size SUV that has distinct styling unlike anything else on the road.

It gets flushed door handles, chunky side cladding, a sculpted front look with a closed-off front grille, vertically stacked headlamps, and a bold horizontal LED daytime running light signature. The profile is further enhanced by dual-tone alloy wheels and a generous expanse of glass behind the C-pillars. At the rear, a prominent LED light bar spans the tailgate, complemented by a rugged skid plate to round off the complete look.

Stepping inside the Sierra at the Auto Expo 2025 revealed a tech-forward cabin. A triple-screen setup, digital gauges, and a unique four-spoke steering wheel immediately grabbed attention. While Tata's keeping the full feature list under wraps, expect a tech-fest inside with features like a Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Given Tata's recent safety push, a top-notch safety rating is also likely.
Engine Details

So, Tata is keeping the exact engine details for the ICE-powered Sierra under wraps, but here's what the potential powertrain will be. They are probably going to drop in 1.5-liter turbo petrol that churns around 170 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. A 2.0-liter diesel, the same one they use in the Harrier, is also a pretty safe bet. Typically Tata, they are also bringing out an electric Sierra EV. That's where things get interesting. We're talking about 60 to 80 kWh battery packs, maybe single or dual motors, and possibly all-wheel drive with an aim for a range of about 500 kilometers, which would be pretty impressive.
Verdict
Tata hasn't had that kind of a success that it would have liked with the Safari, which although doing decently, couldn't match up to the SUV craze that is currently in India. However, the Sierra could turn things around with an icon ressurecting with all the modern bling. Let's wait till concrete details are out to assess it this is the big SUV that could put Tata back at the helm.
