5 Pros Of Mahindra Scorpio N SUV
The updated gen Scorpio N is a notch above product when compared to the previous-gen Scorpio. The changes range from dimensions to tech & safety. Here are the 5 pros of the new Scorpio N:
- Dimensions - Mahindra claimed that the new Scorpio will be the 'big daddy' of the SUVs in India, ahead of launch. Well, they were right. The Scorpio N is definitely one of the biggest SUVs; not just in the segment but also in the segment above SUVs as well. The butch looks mixed with sophisticated masculinity makes the new Scorpio look eye candy over the roads. While we try not to exaggerate this, here are its actual dimensions of it: Length (4.662 mt), Width (1.917 mt), & Height (1.87 mt). Although, the ground clearance stands at 187 mm; say thanks to the new measurement rules.
- Suspension - Mahindra cars were never brought for their suspension. They were bouncy & unsettling to ride, no doubt about that. Well, say goodbye to those old days. First, the Mahindra XUV700 showcased it, and now the Scorpio N too; that Mahindra can make supremely comfortable SUVs. Mahindra constructed a new suspension for the Scorpio N which uses 35 percent alloy components attached indirectly to the springs. Additionally, there is a Pentalink WATT's linkage that was previously seen on the Endeavour. This helps the car to remain balanced with people onboard; over the high-speed curves. There are also Frequency-Dependent Dampner (FDD) & FDS tech which allow the suspension to counter the high-speed thuds. All of this tech is not just for the paper but it also shined like a diamond on our long journey.
- Technology - Mahindra is well-known to play with new tech & features with its new products. So, the use of high-tech features such as the LED projector headlights, LED projector foglamps, electric sunroof, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, leather upholstery, etc., was not a big surprise. Mahindra has equipped the new-gen Scorpio with 4X4 as well. This also embeds 4 various off-road driving modes which can be switched between via the touch of a button. Also, the performance of the LED headlights is stupendous. Apart from this, Mahindra is also offering Alexa, and Adrenox Connect as connected features for ease of driving.
- Engine - Mahindra's engine & gearbox combo is the lifeline of its products. The ruggedness, the reliability, the raw availability of power & torque, & the refinement is what the new Scorpio N engine is all about. It is offered in 2 various engine options - diesel & petrol. Both of these engines are extremely powerful as well as convenient to use due to the availability of an automatic gearbox. The diesel engine comes in two states of tune - 128 hp & 174 hp. While the petrol engine comes with a 202 hp of engine power. Both of these engines are torquey & amazing to use.
- Safety - Mahindra's work for making safe passenger vehicles is commendable. First, the XUV 700 was equipped with class-leading safety tech & now the Scorpio N. While one might say that the 213 kg lighter chassis is not safe; Mahindra contradicted it even before. The new Scorpio N is equipped with 6 airbags, a front & rear camera, ESC, hill hold assist, hill descent control, roll-over mitigation, & even a driver drowsiness warning system. All of these features have made sure that the Scorpio buyers get the handy safety on the go.

5 Cons Of Mahindra Scorpio N SUV
In our long journey of 1,400+ km, we came across a few things about the new Scorpio N that we did not like very much. Here are the top 5 cons of the new Scorpio:
- Lack Of Utility Space - On one side, the cabin is extremely luxurious & endorses a premium feel-good factor to it. On the other side, there is a lack of plenty of utility spaces inside the cabin. The door pads are sure of good quality construction but they can only hold one-liter water bottles & a few small items such as a slim magazine at the best. This case remains the same all over the cabin. Also, there is no comfortable space to place the phones of occupants inside the cabin. The front seats get stitched pockets for the phone holder behind the seat cover pockets. These are hidden, so a lot of occupants will miss them. We wish that there were more utility space inside the cabin. Rivals like the Tata Safari offer more utility space over it.
- Lack Of Boot Space - With the third row raised up, there is slim to no boot space inside the new Scorpio N. One can only fix up a small handbag or maybe two handbags at its best inside the boot. Yes, to make the room for luggage, one or both of the last row seats need to be put down. But, if you're traveling with 5-6 passengers, be ready to face a hard time fixing the luggage from here to there. We wish that this was better, as the competition rivals offer more boot space than the new Scorpio N.
- Lack Of Essential Features - While the new Socprio N is a feature-rich Mahindra, we are not happy to notice that a few essential features are left behind by the company. There is no automatic IRVM which is a big downer. Additionally, there is no seat ventilation inside the cabin. Leave the rear, even the front seats do not get the ventilation. Even the smaller segment cars are now being offered with the ventilated seats. Last but not least is the lack of charging ports along with the no third row AC vents. Oh, come on Mahindra! How hard was it to give rear AC vents?
- Rear Seat Space - Well, not a big surprise was the lack of usable space in the third-row seating. The new Scorpio N does not offer any generous rear-seat space. The third-row passengers are going to have a hard time if they are any longer than 5'4. There is practically no leg room, the thigh space is too less to offer long-distance comfort & the headroom is also not very airy. The good thing is that the second-row seats get recline adjustment; else the hard bolstering makes the travel not so good up there too.
- Touchscreen Lag - The new touchscreen infotainment system of the Scorpio N looks good but it surely isn't the best one around. The touch response is not crisp & it takes time to get used to. At this price point, we would have loved a more responsive system with good quality. Especially, when the reverse gear is put on, the small screen shows an even more small box-type view for the rear camera. It is pathetic to look at & looks aftermarket. The view is very limited & the camera quality seems of a budget-hatchback.

Verdict
So, our long journey from Mumbai - Delhi helped us understand the new Mahindra Scorpio N much more closely. It indeed is a brilliant SUV & it can be termed as one of the best car evolutions in India. But, with a few cons; the pricing is what makes it icing on the cake. The new powerful Mahindra Scorpio N is here to sting, and it surely will sting hard!
