One of the most anticipated launches of 2022 is of the Toyota Hilux. Yes, the pick-up truck from the Japanese carmaker will rival the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Upon its launch, this pick-up truck will be made available in two variants and in this article, we explain the features of the Toyota Hilux base model.

The base model of the Toyota Hilux will be called Low and features an all-black cabin with silver accents on the inside. The silver brushed accents are seen on the gearbox, steering wheel and centre console. There's also a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that'll be equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Being the base model, Hilux surely gets a multifunction steering wheel that takes care of the phone and volume functions, cruise control and gets tilt adjustment. Other features on the Hilux base variant include six speakers, push-button start/stop, centre armrest at the rear, 60:40 split rear seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts at the back.
Even with so many features onboard, the base variant misses out on an automatic gearbox, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seats and electrically adjustable driver's seat. These features are made available in the top-spec, High variant.
On the outside, the base variant gets automatic halogen headlights, LED front fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels carried from the Fortuner, electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn indicators and the chrome grille at the front. At the rear, the chrome treatment on the boot handle and the bumper are missed out. It gets halogen tail lamps instead of LED ones that are available with the top variant.

The good news is that, even with some of the features deleted from the base variant, it is equally capable as an off-roader. And most enthusiasts will simply like it. Under the hood, it features a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This unit produces 201 bhp of power on tap with a maximum torque of 420 Nm with the automated manual version. The base variant will be equipped with a 6-speed iMT only. The torque figures stick to 500 Nm if you pick the Hilux with an automatic gearbox and that is only available with the High variant.
The base variant is also equipped with two driving modes - Eco and Power. Furthermore, it also gets high-4 and low-4 settings along with active traction control, electronic drive control and downhill assist control. This trim will be available in two colour options only - Super White and Grey Metallic. The top-end continues with Pearl White, Red Metallic and Silver Metallic as options.

We are expecting the base variant of the Hilux to be priced between Rs 25-27 lakh whereas the High variant to be upwards of Rs 30 lakh. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi.
