Toyota Innova Crysta EV for us, but for the international market, the Kijang Innova Electric was recently showcased again at the Indonesia International Motor Show 2025. This time, Toyota provided all the details of its battery specs and opened its doors for the media to get a crystal-clear look. But the big question is: Will it ever launch in India? I think we know the answer, but still, let's discuss in detail below. Before that, make sure to join the 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel to never miss out on automotive updates.

Toyota Kijang Innova BEV

In 2022, we at 91Wheels covered the Innova electric story, but at that time, information regarding specifications was limited. Now, we have a clear picture. This E-MPV boasts a 59.3 kWh Li-ion battery pack, producing 134 ps and 700 Nm of torque. Whether it is front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive is unknown, but we anticipate it to be RWD. The vehicle features a CCS2 standard DC fast charging socket and a Type-2 AC charging socket, but there is no information on how many kW of charging it supports.

Exterior

Drifting away from the numbers, let's now talk about its features on offer. For starters, 16-inch machined-spec alloys are there on 215/65 section tires, and they look ordinary. There is no grille, as it's an EV, but that fully covered area becomes a bridge between the two LED headlight DRLs, and we get connected LED DRLs on this EV, which looks cool. The bumpers are finished in piano black, adding a touch of opulence. Lastly, the headlight design is completely similar to the Innova Crysta.

From the side profile, it is completely identical, but this showcased model has sporty graphics pasted on it, in blue and grey colours, hinting that this is an EV. Onto the rear, where Toyota has forcefully tried to make a connecting LED DRL design, but it appears completely disoriented and an afterthought. One major thing is that the Toyota logo has blue-colour hints, visible at both ends.

Now onto the interior, where things are lucid but impactful

Overall, the interior layout is similar to that of the Crysta model, but the analog tachometer dials are surrounded by blue rings, which arrest your attention. The infotainment screen looks like it's 10 inches, but it doesn't appear to be an original Toyota-sourced one. Then, at the central console area, Toyota has used a very cheap rubber material for the gear modes. This hints that it is, again, a concept, but the gear modes placement and switches are immediate turn-offs.

In the second row, there are only big white captain seats, and between them, leatherette hand rests with a wireless charging pad. Below them, two cup holders add to its premium quotient. Also, two LCD screens are provided, dedicated to each passenger. Even the third row has white-colored seats, which, from the photos, appear to provide great comfort. Lastly, the boot space is fanatstic, good enough to keep 2-3 trolly bags.

So, overall this MPV features a white and black interior theme, which is also visible at front.

Will It Come To India?

Toyota Innova Hycross

In India, we already have the next generation of the Innova - the Hycross Hybrid, which has taken the Innova legacy to another stratosphere, with a waiting period of around 6 months. This majestic MPV has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.23 km/l, and people are loving it. If Toyota decides to bring the Innova Electric to India in the near future, there are high chances that the Hycross model will be converted to an EV, not the Crysta, as it is too old, and in a few years, Toyota might discontinue it. So, we believe this concept will not launch in India.

Verdict

This concept looks very close to being in its final stages, and with a few more improvements, it will be ready to hit the roads. Talking about it coming to India, that is unsure because, why would Toyota bring electric technology to its older model of the Innova when they already have the Hycross on sale?
