Volkswagen Tiguan EV By 2025, More Small And Premium EVs In Works.

In a world that is potentially searching for the future in electric mobility, Volkswagen has chalked out a plan for the same. It plans to roll out 3 Electric cars in the next few years with the first being Volkswagen Tiguan EV. This will be making its way to the showrooms somewhere in 2023. Following this, 2 more EVs are in the pipeline to strengthen the electric portfolio of the German car conglomerate.

What more has been revealed by the CEO Thomas Schafer, let's see the future EVs from Volkswagen.

The new midrange EV will be based on the MEB+ architecture. This is an advanced incarnation of the MEB platform introduced in 2022.

The MEB still has a lot of potential. Our goal is to take the platform to the next level, he said. To achieve this, we are investing substantially in upgrading it. With the MEB+, we will then be in an excellent position for the years to come.

What's interesting is that it will be offered in two drive configurations. A rear-wheel drive and the other being an all-wheel drivetrain system. It is expected to be available in both a 5-seater as well as in a 7-seating layout.

Battery

Another development this new MEB+ platform brings with it is new unified battery cell tech. Confirmed by the company that it will land by 2025, and the Tiguan EV will roll out with this fresh battery tech. The MEB+ architecture enables faster charging speed and also improved battery range. This ultimately indicates that the charging speed could go past 170 kW and the range over 521 km from the existing ID 4 EV. The preparations are for a more advanced all-terrain capable electric SUV.

An Entry Level And A Premium EV On The Cards

With the Tiguan EV getting the ball rolling, 2 more EVs will follow. one entry-level EV on the lines of the Volkswagen T-Cross. It is likely to be priced slightly above the ID 4 which retails at #22,000 (roughly Rs 22.47 lakh) base price in European markets. This is slated for launch in 2025. The expected range on this one is somewhere in between the 300- 400 km mark.

The other EV on the cards is the flagship from the EV portfolio based on the Trinity project combining technological development with software integration. It will be available with both rear-wheel-drive long-range and dual-motor performance drivetrains. This will enable it to charge over 350 kWh and deliver a range closer to 700 km. Since it aims for a flagship position, tech loadings are not a problem. Landing by 2028, this one will take its sweet time.
