Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Details

The Tiguan R-Line comes with an all-new design, and it appears a lot more rounded than the outgoing car. The headlamps and tail lamps are slimmer and sleeker than before, and the car makes use of modern design trends as well, such as a full-length light bar on the nose and the tailgate. It also gets a mesh-pattern grille, and another mesh-pattern element at the rear bumper as well.

It also carries over the twin-spoke dual-tone alloy rims, shod on 20-inch tyres. There will be five colour options to choose from; Persimmon Red Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White with Mother of Pearl Effect & Oyster Silver Metallic
Built on the same MQB evo platform, the Tiguan R-Line is almost identical to the outgoing car in terms of width and height. However, the length has now gone up by 39mm over the previous car, while at 2680mm, the wheelbase is just 1mm longer.

The Tiguan R-Line will carry over the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which has been updated globally and it now produces 201bhp, while the torque remains the same at 320Nm. The powertrain is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system will also be on offer.

VW has left a small hint on its website regarding the driving modes on offer; we know that Sport mode will be one of them, while other modes that are offered globally include Eco, Comfort, Custom, Snow, and Off-road.

The interiors of the Tiguan R-Line are also completely new, featuring a new dashboard with an illuminated panel on the passenger side. These panels can also be seen on the door pads, thus reminding one briefly of the star-lit illuminated panels seen on the Rolls-Royce Spectre.

The Tiguan R-Line also comes with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, a larger 12.9-inch infotainment touch screen, and a central rotary selector which can toggle between the drive modes. This selector can also be used to switch between five preset modes for ambient lighting and sound settings.
More details shall be revealed at the launch, which will take place on April 2025. The Tiguan R-Line will come in as a CBU, and this will drive it closer to the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1 territory.

Verdict
With the Tiguan R-Line coming in as a CBU, VW will certainly know its prices will move it into a different segment altogether. However, we expect VW to be prepared and load up the car with enough features, while also offering a capable powertrain, which should then make the price tag acceptable.
