  • Boasts a sporty design language with a peppy engine
  • Here's our detailed first report of the Xoom experience after 700 km

Hero Motocorp introduced the Xoom 110 scooter in January of this year. Positioned as one of the most competitively priced scooters in its segment, the Hero Xoom comes with notable features, including some that are the first of their kind in the segment. We recently added the Hero Xoom to our long-term fleet, and I've had the opportunity to ride it extensively, covering over 700 km in a month. Here is our initial report on the Hero Xoom as part of our long-term evaluation.

Hero Xoom 110 Looks & Features

Hero Xoom 110

In my opinion, the design of the Xoom 110 stands out as one of its most attractive features. Hero has incorporated an aggressive, sharp panel design complemented by vibrant graphics. The scooter is further enhanced with LED lights, robust tires, and a generously wide and comfortable seat. Notably, the pillion grab rails seamlessly integrate into the body, contributing to the scooter's overall sleek appearance. The dimensions and proportions of the Xoom's body panels are thoughtfully executed.

The Xoom is the first scooter in the segment to feature cornering lights. The scooter is also equipped with an LED headlight and taillight, enhancing visibility. The H-speed LED DRL adds a stunning visual element. The cornering lights contribute to lighting the turns when riding in the dark areas. However, given that most city roads are well-lit, I didn't have the opportunity to fully test the true throw and capabilities of the corner lamps. While the LED headlamp provides a decent throw, there is room for improvement. The digital instrument panel is not only Bluetooth-enabled but also supports SMS and Caller ID alerts while on the go.

Hero Xoom 110 Engine & Performance

The Hero Xoom 110 is powered by a sturdy 110cc engine, delivering commendable performance on the road. With 8 bhp of power and 8.7 Nm of torque, the engine proves more than sufficient for daily commuting needs. Initially, I noticed a slightly high starting jolt and vibrations, along with grunty engine noise. However, with time, the vibrations gradually settle down, making them more manageable and less of a concern in daily use. The engine is finely tuned to remain peppy, providing quick acceleration. Acceleration up to 60 km is not only swift but also responsive, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride. Beyond 60 kmph, the engine seems a bit on the revving side, but it easily manages to reach higher speeds.

When ridden solo, the Xoom demonstrates its capabilities by reaching speeds of up to 90 kmph, a commendable performance for a scooter in this segment. With a pillion rider, cruising at 70-75 kmph is easily achievable. The Xoom effortlessly handles daily tasks, be it picking up groceries or commuting to the office.

Hero Xoom Ride & Handling

The Hero Xoom weighs 109 kg, making it relatively light. This lightness plays a significant role in enhancing the scooter's maneuverability. Unlike some competitors that ride on 10-inch tires, the Xoom features 12-inch tires. The use of a 100/80 section rear tire adds to the scooter's on-road confidence, particularly during curves and maneuvers. Even at high speeds, the scooter maintains stability, showcasing well-tuned riding dynamics.

In terms of braking, the front disc brake proves to be highly efficient, providing effective stopping power. On the other hand, the rear drum brake feels a bit sluggish in terms of stopping power. The optimal stopping power is achieved when both brakes are used simultaneously. Regarding comfort, the seat is adequately cushioned and offers ample space when riding solo. However, the footwell area may feel cramped due to the front pockets. With a height of 5 feet 10 inches, I noticed that, with a pillion rider, the front seat doesn't offer much space.

Moreover, the Xoom provides two small pockets in the front for storing items. However, I believe they would be more secure if they were covered or lockable cubby holes. Additionally, it features an 18-liter under-seat storage that can easily accommodate a half-face helmet along with some smaller items. Fitting a larger full-face helmet might pose a challenge.

Verdict

As we will have the scooter with us for the upcoming month, a comprehensive report will follow shortly with additional insights into the Hero Xoom 110. From the initial impressions, I can say that the Xoom is a favorable option for those seeking a scooter priced under Rs 1 lakh. With a competitive price point, it delivers a compelling set of features, coupled with a distinctive design and an energetic engine. However, there is certainly room for refinement and better space management. Perhaps, we may see these issues addressed in the next update.
