As 2023 was drawing to a close, about four months before the end of the year, KTM surprised everyone with a major update to its highly anticipated 250 Duke model. This wasn't just a minor refresh but marked a significant leap from the second generation to the third generation of the bike.

KTM 250 Duke: Old vs New Is It Better Looking Now?
The design changes are quite noticeable in the 3rd Gen 250 Duke. The front headlights have a similar shape but now feature a thicker border, and the entire setup is smoother and more elevated compared to before. The previous second-generation 250 Duke had a flatter look with a thinner border.
The mirrors have also been redesigned. On the side, the bike appears more muscular, and while the seat design remains split, it has been updated. At the rear, the tail looks slightly familiar but with some tweaks, including changes to the mudguard and other details.
KTM 250 Duke: LED Lighting Setup Whats Changed From Old To New?
The lighting setup on the second-generation 250 Duke featured LED DRLs positioned outside, next to the petal-shaped headlamp. In contrast, the third-generation 250 Duke integrates the DRLs within the headlamp itself, located on the lower half of the petal-shaped design. The rear design has also evolved; the previous model had a larger tail light, while the new 250 Duke sports a T-shaped tail light.
Additionally, the new model includes a hazard light, with the button conveniently placed on the left side of the handlebar. This feature was absent in the previous generation.

On the handlebar, you now have illuminated buttons on the left side, which allow you to easily switch between different functions on the screen. These buttons are arranged in a square, making them easily reachable with your thumb. Another significant update is the introduction of a ride-by-wire throttle, which removes the mechanical linkages between the throttle body and the hand accelerator. Previously, you would have seen a cable connection for this throttle system.

The 2024 KTM 250 Duke features a 5-inch TFT display that offers a range of modern functionalities. It comes with a full-colour screen, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, music control, and more. In contrast, the 2023 model had a smaller display with an orange backlight and lacked Bluetooth features. However, it still provided essential readouts for a functional riding experience.

KTM 250 Duke: Ola vs New - Has The Power Increased?
The previous model featured a 248.7cc engine producing 29.6bhp and 24Nm of torque, with a fuel tank capacity of 13.5 litres. In contrast, the new model comes equipped with a 249.07cc engine that delivers 31bhp and 25Nm of torque. Additionally, the fuel tank has been upgraded to hold 15 litres, offering increased range and convenience.

The older 250 Duke featured a split-trellis frame, but the new model has upgraded to this frame plus an aluminium-casted sub-frame. This change has significantly reduced the bike's weight. The third-generation 250 Duke weighs 162.8 kg, whereas the previous generation tipped the scales at 168 kg. This means the new Duke is lighter and benefits from improved frame technology, making it more efficient and easier to handle.

In terms of braking, the new model features a 320 mm disc with a radially mounted calliper at the front, which now includes a hubless design. In contrast, the previous model had the same size disc but lacked the hubless feature. The new bike also comes with a 240 mm disc with a floating calliper at the rear, whereas the old model had a 230 mm disc.
Both generations come with dual-channel ABS to enhance safety. In terms of suspension, the new model is fitted with WP APEX USD forks at the front and a WP APEX mono-shock at the rear, which includes a 10-step preload adjustment.
