Battery Pack And Charging Comparison
In XEV 9e, Mahindra will offer two battery packs, one of a 59 kWh and other of 79 kWh. The first one puts out 231 hp and the bigger one, 286 hp with 380 Nm of torque. Whether it will be AWD is to be announed, but at the moment we know, that it is a RWD E-SUV. Talking about range, the ARAI calimed figures for 656 km for the 79 kWh battery pack, and 542 km with standard battery. However, as per Mahindra, the real world range figures will exceed 500 km easily.
Now, the big news here is, the charging time. Mahindra claims that the 79 kWh battery can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes using a 175 kW DC fast charger. Whereas, the 59 kWh will take the same time with 140 kW charger. In coming weeks, we'll come across more information regarding this car, as there is so much too it.
On the other hand, the BYD Atto 3 has two battery packs: one with a capacity of 49.98 kWh and the other with 60.48 kWh. The standard pack offers 203 PS and 310 Nm of torque, with an ARAI-certified range of 468 km. With a DC fast charger, it takes 50 minutes to charge from 0 to 80%.
The second, larger pack has a claimed range of 521 km, and the power output is similar to the first one. As for its charging time, it takes 50 minutes to go from 0 to 80% with a DC charger and 9.5 to 10 hours with an AC charger.
For now, it is fair to say that the XEV 9e, with its smaller battery, can easily outperform the BYD Atto 3 in terms of range and charging time. So, in this comparison, the XEV 9e stands out.
Features Comparison
he all-new XEV 9e is miles ahead in terms of features when compared to the BYD Atto 3. In the top-spec variant, the XEV 9e comes with a three-screen setup, which Mahindra is calling the 43-inch Cinemascope. Apart from the screen setup, it also features an Infinity Roof with 16 million hues and, a segment-first, Head-Up Display with Augmented Reality.
In the BYD Atto 3, you'll get a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, Dirac HD sound with 8 speakers, ambient lighting, a 360-degree view monitor, a 5-inch digital driver's display, a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat, NFC card key, electric tailgate and radar-based ADAS Level 2.
By comparing these, one thing is clear: none of them are short on features. It's just that the Mahindra XEV 9e is a new product, which also happens to be Mahindra's flagship electric SUV, hence all this new technology.
Dimensions Comparison
Dimensions | Mahindra XEV 9e | BYD Atto 3 |
Length | 4789 mm | 4,455 mm |
Width | 1907 mm | 1,875 mm |
Height | 1694 mm | 1,615 mm |

Ground Clearance | 207 mm | 175 mm (Unladen) |

The XEV 9e is a BIG vehicle. Looking at those numbers and its photos, it appears to be a proper SUV. On the other hand, the Atto 3 looks more like a crossover, not even an SUV from the images, and the 175 mm of ground clearance limits its capabilities. Also, in the XEV 9e, there is no shortage of space, with 663 L of boot space and an extra 150 L at the front.
