As observed in the table, Kia Carens is a massive 135 mm longer than the Avanza and also 70 mm wider. The former accounts for a good shoulder room inside the MPV. The wheelbase too of the Carens stick to 2780 mm as compared to the 2750 mm of the Toyota Avanza. The ground clearance and the height for both the MPVs are same at 195 mm and 1700 mm respectively.

As can be seen in the table, it is the Kia Carens that stand out in the engine power figures on paper. The 1.5L unit of Carens generates 113 bhp whereas that of Avanza just 103 bhp. The peak torque figures too stick to 144 Nm and 138 Nm respectively. The 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine is the same found in Kia Seltos. This unit pumps out 138 bhp with a maximum torque of 242 Nm and gets a 6-speed MT as standard along with an optional 7-speed DCT.
The major advantage Kia Carens has over Avanza is the availability of a diesel engine. This unit produces 113 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed manual as standard and a 6-speed AT as optional is observed.

Toyota Avanza vs Kia Carens - Features and Safety
Globally, the Toyota Avanza is equipped with a 9.0-inch touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets automatic climate control, electronic parking brake, 360-degree camera, wireless charging among others. Six airbags, electronic stability control are some of the noted safety features that the Avanza will come with.
On the other hand, the equipment list on the Kia Carens is broader as it gets a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 64-colour ambient lighting, front ventilated seats, an electric sunroof and more. On the safety front, Carens get 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, reverse parking sensors and others.
Toyota Avanza vs Kia Carens - Price and Launch
Kia Carens is expected to be launched in the first week of February and the prices will be kept between Rs 15-20 lakh margin. For the Toyota Avanza, there's no official update from the carmaker but we do expect it to be priced between 9.90 lakh to Rs 13.99 lakh. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi.
Both the MPVs are yet to be launched in the Indian market and if you are someone who wants a feature-loaded MPV along with a diesel or a turbo petrol engine then Kia Carens is the one for you. On the other hand, Toyota might fill in the gap for the budget-friendly market by providing the latest features and tech on the Avanza.
