Be it a young college guy, an office-going man or even an old-aged uncle, most of the people ride a 125cc motorcycle. That's because these bikes are adequately powerful for daily city usage, deliver good fuel-efficiency, are practical and budget-friendly too. There are many big players in this class but the segment always remains dominated by the Honda Shine. The BS4 Shine was sold in two versions: CB Shine and CB Shine SP. While transitioning from BS4 to BS6, the CB Shine continued to remain a more formal commuter and is called the Shine BS6. Whereas, the CB Shine SP has become more macho and feature-loaded offering and is now called the SP 125. So, today we have for you the First Look Review of this new 2020 Honda SP 125 BS6.

Honda SP 125 BS6: What is it?

The 2020 Honda SP 125 BS6 is a premium 125cc commuter motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer in India. It is a more sporty and feature-loaded iteration of the regular Honda Shine. The SP 125 BS6 slots in above the newly launched 2020 Honda CD 110 Dream BS6 and sits below the Honda Unicorn 150 BS6 in the company's India line-up. Also, worth mentioning is that it was the first BS6-compliant Honda Motorcycle in India.

Honda SP 125 BS6: Looks, Dimensions and Colour Options

The Honda SP 125 BS6 is a very good-looking commuter. It looks very youthful and the overall design is more striking compared to its predecessor. The bike gets new all-LED angular headlamps, sharp tank extensions with dashing dual-tone body graphics. It also gets five-spoke alloy wheels and features an angular rear design. The design of the bike is a subjective matter but undeniably it is one of the best-looking bikes in its segment.

The SP 125 BS6 is sold in four different colour shades  Matte Axis Grey Metallic, Pearl Siren Blue, Imperial Red Metallic and Striking Green. It measures 2020 mm in length, 785 mm in width and 1103 mm in height. The bike has a wheelbase of 1285 mm and the saddle height stands at 790 mm. It has a decent ground clearance of 160 mm. Also, it is also one of the lightest bikes in its segment weighing just 123 kilograms.

Honda SP 125 BS6: Engine, Transmission and Mileage

The 2020 Honda SP 125 BS6 is powered by an all-new 124cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. It churns out 11.03 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 10.9 Nm of peak torque at 6000 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It gets Honda's Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) technology that maximizes performance and fuel efficiency.

The SP 125 also features HET (Hondas Eco Technology) and gets a silent start system with ACG starter motor technology that starts the bike without a jolt and offers a smooth riding experience. Honda claims that the fuel-efficiency of this bike has now gone up by 16 per cent compared to BS4 model. It will deliver a real-life mileage of around 60-65 kmpl and gets an 11-litre fuel tank.

Honda SP 125 BS6: Tyres, Brakes and Features

The BS6 Honda SP 125 features new 80/100 section 18-inch tubeless tyres. These tyres offer low rolling resistance and are specially designed to increase fuel-efficiency. It gets 130 mm drum brake at the rear and the customers can choose between a 130 mm drum / 240 mm disc unit for the front. It also gets Honda's combined braking system (CBS) and equalizer for added safety.

The suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks and hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. It gets so many segment-first features like a DC LED headlamp, new engine on/off switch, ACG starter motor, integrated headlight beam & passing switch and many more. It also gets an all-digital instrument cluster (first in segment) loaded with a ton of information including a gear position indicator.

Honda SP 125 BS6: Price, Rivals and Verdict

The 2020 Honda SP 125 BS6 is available in two variants: Drum Brake and Disc Brake. The Drum version is priced at Rs. 73,452 while the Disc version is priced at Rs. 77,652. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. It rivals other 125cc BS6 commuters like the Hero Glamour 125, Hero Super Splendor, Honda Shine, Bajaj Pulsar 125, etc.
