Mahindra is currently overbooked for the XUV700 as the demand for this SUV is too high and the waiting period soars 12 months for some of the variants. While it is one of the most desirable SUVs in the segment, here we have another SUV from the Mahindra clan that is a segment above. The 2022 Mahindra Alturas G4 is priced at Rs 21 lakh which makes it cheaper than the AX7 Diesel AT variant of the XUV700.

As can be seen, the base variant is priced as low as Rs 21.01 lakh. On the other hand, AX7 Diesel AT of the XUV700 is priced at Rs 21.58 lakh. Both the variants are offered with a diesel automatic and while the pricing is a lot similar, there is a whole lot of difference between these two SUVs.

Both the SUVs are powered by a 2.2L, four-cylinder BS6 compliant turbocharged diesel motor. However, the power and torque figures for both SUVs are different. Alturas G4 belts out 178 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 420 Nm while the peak power and torque figures of XUV700 stick to 182 bhp and 450 Nm respectively. Do note that the peak torque of the diesel manual is 420 Nm only. The G4 gets a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox compared to 6-speed AT found in XUV700.
Another thing to notice here is the drivetrain. The G4 gets a body on frame chassis and receives a rear-wheel-drive setup whereas the XUV700 sits on a monocoque platform and gets a front-wheel-drive setup.

Being a segment above matters a lot and as can be seen here, the Alturas G4 is really a step ahead in terms of dimension when compared with the XUV700. It is longer by 105 mm, wider by 70 mm and taller by 90 mm when compared with the XUV700. Even the wheelbase of the G4 is longer by 115 mm thus making more room in the second and third-row seats.

Both the SUVs get 18-inch alloy wheels, however, the dimensions of both the models are different. Alturas G4 gets equipped with 255/60 R18 while the XUV700 gets 235/60 R18. The big SUV also gets an additional 10 litres of fuel tank capacity and the seating capacity of both models is 7.

When it comes to safety equipment, the XUV700 is at par with the Alturas G4. For starters, it gets an autonomous driving assistance system, 6 airbags, adaptive cruise control and more such features. On the other hand, Alturas G4 is equipped with dual airbags only for the base variant. The base variant of the Alturas G4 also gets hill descent control and front parking sensors which are a miss in the XUV700.
Both the models get an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat mounts, front seat belt reminder, speed-sensing door lock, traction control, child safety lock and more.

When compared with the XUV700, the base variant of the Alturas G4 gets a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, cooled glove box, puddle lights, one touch down and up function for the driver and co-driver side window and more. XUV700 only gets a rake adjustable steering wheel and puddle lights can be available as an option.
