Mahindra has been testing out the new Scorpio for quite some time now and with the newer 2022 model, the SUV will grow in size, features and mechanical figures. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has been spied yet again but now reveals clear information as to what the SUV packs and how will it look on the Indian roads. Let's have a look.
The silhouette of the new SUV retains upright like before, however, it has now grown in dimensions. At the front, you see a chunkier grille design with box-styled headlights. What it appears from the spy shot that the LED daytime running lights are placed on the lower part of the bumper and not integrated into the headlights.
The front bumper will also get a faux skid plate that gives a sporty approach to the styling. Moving to the side profile then you do get new 17-inch alloy wheels that look better than before. The styling cues can be observed right from the fender and that continues till the rear quarter.

To give it a rustic appeal, Mahindra might bring in body cladding that will run across the body for the lower variants. The side step remains just like the older version and what we expect is some wheel arch cladding that will give an aggressive appeal to the SUV design.
The first thing that you will notice at the rear is the signature tailgate. Yes, the one that will open sideways continues on this one too and it retains the DNA from the older Scorpios. You also get LED taillights with turn indicators and the spare wheel is mounted at the bottom.
Overall, the new Scorpio packs in an upright stance that not only looks good but attracts a wide audience. The large windows and wide cabin will make passengers sitting inside comfortable but we are worried about the blind spots of the Scorpio. Well, that can only be answered when we get to drive the SUV in the near future.

On the inside, the new Scorpio will pack in a new interior layout with an updated dashboard and upholstery design. You will now get a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features like cruise control, automatic climate control, tyre pressure monitoring system, multi-function steering wheel and others.
Safety-wise, we do hope that Mahindra has built the SUV on a newer platform and that carries a rugged build quality. The earlier Scorpio scored 0 stars which is a shame for the SUV. We expect a minimum of 4-stars from the new-age Scorpio. We expect rear disc brakes, front parking sensors, traction control, hill hold control, multiple airbags and more as safety features.
Sharing the mechanical details then the new 2022 Scorpio will pack in the same old 2.2L mHawk diesel unit. However, this one will now churn more figures and we can expect close to 164 bhp on tap with a peak torque of 360 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission will be observed as standard while there might be an optional 6-speed AT too. As per the reports, the higher variants of the Scorpio might get 4WD as an option. But let's just wait until further updates.
We can expect the new Scorpio to be launched in early 2022 and the expected prices stick to Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
