2023 Bajaj-Triumph Scrambler: Most Affordable Triumph Ever?
Recently, Triumph has handed over its operations in India to Bajaj. This means that all of the Triumph's bikes will now be sold by Bajaj. Additionally, the JV has been developing a new range of mid-segment bikes. These will primarily focus on the 250-500cc segment which is majorly owned by Royal Enfield now. Hence, the first product is the upcoming Scrambler duo. It has already been spied on test runs across India multiple times. But, now Bajaj has officially revealed its global debut date of 27 June. In India, it will make its entry later in September. It is possible that Bajaj will introduce two variants of it - one made for streets while the other made for long-distance & trail riding.
So, what will be its cost? Well, it will be made by Bajaj which means that the production costs will be reasonably low. However, it won't be another cheap attempt to take on its rivals like Honda CB300R & Interceptor 650. The quality, standards, and tech used are approved by Triumph only. Therefore, we expect that it can be easily pitched in the bracket of Rs 2.5-3 lakh. Meanwhile, to make a strong entry into the segment; it is possible that the introductory prices of it will dip below this bracket. But, in the long run, it'll be a fairly premium bike to own for sure.
Performance & Specs - Better Than Rivals?
Now, the main question is what it'll be like to ride. Well, as speculated, it'll get a bigger single-cylinder engine with liquid cooling. This engine will be in the range of 350-400cc. Hence, the power output expected from it will be well above 35 bhp. Similarly, the torque figures shall also be higher than the 35 Nm bracket. We've already seen that the test bikes have features like LED lights, adjustable suspension, semi-digital instrument console, etc. Additionally, the presence of equipment like switchable ABS, traction control, etc., can not be denied.
Verdict
The 250-500cc segment witnesses a high sales figure. Ironically, even after multiple attempts by various manufacturers, Royal Enfield remains undefeated here. Some reports claim that more than 80 percent of sales in this segment are owned by RE itself. Hence, the launch of the Scrambler model from Bajaj-Triumph will be an interesting one. Nonetheless, new customers will definitely get a new option in the segment.
