2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 & the Z400 sports motorcycle duo is finally out internationally. The changes include a BS6-compliant engine & lighter clutch.
Not long ago, Kawasaki pulled the lug from its Ninja 400 in India. The reason was the less sales volume & also the BS4 engine. Now, the 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 & Z400 superbike duo has made its global debut. The upcoming bikes will be BS6-compliant as well as have some cosmetic & technical changes.

The Japanese premium performance bike maker recently showcased the upcoming 400 siblings. The Ninja 400 is the primary product that the company is focusing on for the international market. In India also, the Ninja 400 had a small but very strong fan base. Although, the pricing of the previous generation bike killed it for the domestic market.
So, what is new in the 2023 iteration? First, the 400 siblings will now have a mild cosmetic tweak. This includes the new colours along with the KRT (Kawasaki Racing Team) livery for the updated bikes. Additionally, the engine is now Euro-5 or BS6-compliant. This means more linear torque delivery & fewer emissions.

Kawasaki is using the tried & tested 399cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine for the 400 siblings. This engine produces peak power of 45 hp & 37 Nm of peak torque. The torque has gone down by 1 Nm due to redesigned catalytic converter. Additionally, the slipper-assist clutch is now 20 percent lighter than the previous one. This will ensure faster & smoother gearshifts. The rest of the bike remains technically the same.
One more not-so-good thing with the previous generation Ninja 400 is also addressed with the update. The old bike had this dated & boring-looking demi-digital instrument cluster. Even the buyers reported a lack of interest in the instrument panel. The updated 400's are suspected to carry a new TFT all-digital display with Smartphone connectivity as well. We expect the features like the turn-by-turn navigation etc. to come as standard.

While the Z400 has never seen the Indian turf; the possibility of the 2023 Ninja 400 India launch is very high. We calculate that the possible entry of the Ninja 400 can take place by the end of 2023 in India. We hope that Kawasaki does not price absurdly.
