2024 Bajaj Pulsar N150 Pros
Stylish and fresh design
The Pulsar N150 looks almost identical to the slightly more powerful Pulsar N160, retaining its front fascia, chiselled fuel tank, and sleek tail section. New design elements like LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and sleeker LED tail lamps further make it look fresh.
Competition check: Compared to the direct rivals like the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V and Yamaha FZ-S FI V3, the Bajaj Pulsar N150 looks sharper and fresher.
Agile handling
The sleeker design of the Bajaj Pulsar N150, with comfortable knee recesses and a slightly stiffer suspension setup, makes it a good handler. The Pulsar N150 has a sharp design but a slimmer stance, which makes steering the motorcycle in congested traffic situations fairly easier.
Competition check: Like the Yamaha FZ-S FI V3, the Bajaj Pulsar N150 has a mono-shock at the rear, though the Apache RTR 160 2V has an old-school dual coil spring setup.
Peppy and powerful engine
Bajaj Pulsars have always been about raw power delivery, which maximises the thrill of riding them. The Bajaj Pulsar N150 follows the tradition with a punchy mid-range, which gives it impressive acceleration and excellent tractability while riding at city speeds.
Competition check: The Bajaj Pulsar N150's single-cylinder 149.68cc engine produces 14.5 PS and 13.5 Nm, which are less than the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V (16 PS and 13.85 Nm) but higher than the Yamaha FZ-S FI V3 (12.4 PS and 13.3 Nm).
Accessible and wide service network
Bajaj Auto has an extensive network, even in smaller towns and rural areas, which makes the Pulsar N150's ownership experience very convenient. Even the maintenance costs are minimal by 150cc segment standards.
Competition check: Bajaj Auto's after-sales service network is relatively wider than Yamaha's and equally good as TVS and Hero MotoCorp's.
2024 Bajaj Pulsar N150 Cons
NVH levels at higher RPMs
The Bajaj Pulsar N150 is a commuter motorcycle that loves to be revved, thanks to its punchy mid-range. However, the bike feels stressed while riding higher RPMs, and vibrations creep in through the foot pegs.
Competition check: The Bajaj Pulsar N150's engine refinement levels are as good as those of the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V but not better than those of the Yamaha FZ-S FI V3.
No rear disc brake option
Unlike the more-premium Pulsar N160, the Bajaj Pulsar N150 comes with a 130mm drum brake as standard for the rear wheel, with no rear disc brake even as an option. This eventually hampers the overall braking performance, which doesn't feel sharp.
Competition check: While the Yamaha FZ-S FI V3 comes with a rear disc brake as standard, the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V gets it as an option.
Instrument Cluster's Low Visibility
The Bajaj Pulsar N150 has been updated with a negative LCD instrument console, which is informative and gets Bluetooth connectivity. However, the data on display isn't visible during day driving due to the negative LCD's lack of brightness.
Competition check: Like the Pulsar N150, the Apache RTR 160 2V instrument console and FZ-S FI V3 also have Bluetooth connectivity.
Verdict
The Bajaj Pulsar N150 was launched as a spiritual successor to the ageing Pulsar 150. It succeeds in this attempt by offering a fresher and sportier design and more features while offering the same thrills in performance and handling as the old Pulsar 150.
